T homas Street Middle School October 2014 VOLUME 15, ISSUE 2 2640 Thomas Street, Mississauga, ON L5M 5G8 Phone: 905-812-3725 Fax: 905-812-3716 Visit our Website regularly for updated information http://schools.peelschools.org/1654 KISS'N RIDE Please ensure that you are using our Kiss and Ride area on the west side of the school to drop off your son or daughter in the morning and to pick them up after school. There has been some concern that students have been dropped off across the parking lot and in the bus loading area with on-coming cars. We have also had reports of students being dropped off on Thomas Street in front of the school. Remember we encourage students who are within walking distance to walk to school. The benefits of walking to school include exercise for the students and the opportunity for students to get some fresh air. Some days we have over 350 cars entering and exiting the parking lot area. Patience and time are required to ensure student safety. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. For consistency those students who stay for after school events should also be picked up in the Kiss and Ride. Please do not wait for your children at the front of the school. REMINDER: Secondary School Parent Information Night here at Thomas Street. Wednesday, October 8th (6:30 to 8:00 p.m.) see inside for details. We Need You!!! Come join the TSMS community and help build our outdoor learning space. Saturday, October 11th (9:00 a.m. to noon) We are putting our final touches on our outdoor classroom and are looking for perennial plant donations, especially ones that are great for ground cover, to fill in the flower beds that are surrounding our Outdoor Classroom. As you put your perennial gardens to bed for the winter, you may be thinking about splitting some of your plants and Thomas Street would love to have them. Please bring them in to the main office. Thank you Mrs. Amy Smith From the Phys. Ed. Dept. Welcome back to another exciting year! Things have already begun at a feverish pace! In Phys. Ed. We will be moving on to a football and soccer unit. Please make sure that your child brings a change of clothes and please take a look at their HPE books to find places to sign and assignments. The Running Club has started and is for students who wish to represent the school at runs and for beginners who just want to improve. They run Tuesdays/Thursdays at lunch. Also a reminder that John Fraser S.S. will be hosting an Information Evening on October 16th at 6:30 p.m. We are an Official RAINBOWS Site Dealing with Loss or Separation The Rainbows program deals with students when something significant happens in a family and the entire family is affected. Even though death, divorce, or other loss issues appear to be only grown up problems they do have a profound effect on the children that are touched by these experiences. If a parent dies or a divorce happens or a painful loss occurs, not only do the parents grieve, but children do also. Because of their age and short life experience, children may find it extremely difficult to verbalize their feelings of grief. We have some very sensitive, caring, trained adults who have said YES to helping these children put their feelings into words, work through their grief, build a stronger sense of self-esteem, and begin to accept what has taken place in the family. If your child is suffering from one of these painful experiences this will be an opportunity for him/her to share with a special someone on the outside what is happening on the inside. For more information or if you would like to register your child, please contact Mr. Morosin at 905-812-3725 Ext.409 Toonie For Terry Our Terry Fox Run took place on Thursday, September 25th. Students participated in a school wide walk/run. Thomas Street raised $947.15. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Thomas Street is now on Twitter!
