1) Evaluate; -12 ÷ (-3) x 4 – (-20)

4) Two pairs of trousers and three shirts cost a total of shs.390. Five such pairs of trousers and
two shirts cost a total of shs. 810. Find the price of a pair of trousers and a shirt.

6) Three years ago Juma was three times as old as Ali. In two years time the sum of their ages

would 50 workers working 6hrs a day take to harvest the maize?

8) Three business partners, Kioko, Njau and Osiako, are to share shs. 12,000 in the ratio 5:6:x
respectively. If Kioko received shs. 4,000, determine the value of x.

9) A manufacturer sells a bottle of fruit juice to a trader at a profit of 40%. The trader sells it for
shs. 84 at a profit of 20%. Find:
a) The traders buying price.

10) A Kenyan bank buys and sells foreign currencies as shown below.

A Japanese travelling from France arrives in Kenya with 5000Euros. He converts all the
5000 Euros to Kenya shillings at the bank. While in Kenya he spends a total of Kshs.
289,850 and then converts the remaining Kenya shillings to Japanese Yen at the bank.
Calculate the amount in Japanese Yen that he receives.

11) A salesman earns a basic salary of shs. 1,500 per month. In addition he is paid commission as

b) Using the graphical method and the provided grid solve the following simultaneous
equations

19) Draw triangle LMN using ruler and compasses only such that ∠LMN = 82.50, LM=8.3cm
and MN=5.8cm. Draw perpendicular bisectors of sides of the triangle to meet at point O.
With O as the centre and radius ON draw a circle passing through L, M, and N.
i) Measure the radius of the circle
ii) Measure angle MNL
iii) Measure line LN

20) A line PQ=11.7cm is perpendicular to line QR. By using line QR, divide line PQ into ten
