Terms to Remember
• Universal Design: the design of products and
environments to be usable by all people, to
the greatest extent possible, without the need
for adaptation or specialized design
• Accessibility: degree to which a product,
device, service, or environment is available to
as many people as possible

Slope
Example 1: Find the slope of the line
that passes through (1,3) and (-2,-3).
Then graph the line.
• Let (x₁, y₁)=(1,3) and let
(x₂, y₂)=(-2,-3)
Example 2: Graph the line passing
through (1,-3) with a slope of
1. Plot (1,-3)
2. Use the slope to
find another point
3. Then graph the
line
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Title III of the ADA prohibits discrimination on the
basis of disability in “places of public
accommodation and commercial facilities.”
• Title III outlines minimum standards for ensuring
accessibility when designing and constructing a
new facility or altering an existing facility. For
wheelchair ramps:
– The least possible slope shall be used. The maximum
slope of a ramp in new construction shall be 1:12.
– The maximum rise for any run shall be 30 inches.
