Course Description:
This is a survey class of world history from prehistoric times up to 1500 with particular focus on Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, the
Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. Emphasis will be placed on the origins, development, and interconnections of diverse cultures, political systems, social and cultural forces, major religions, noted empires, artistic and intellectual achievements, and technological breakthroughs.

Students are graded on a scale of 400 maximum points (100%) earned during the course of this class in the following manner:
(There are 3 grading periods in the semester)
Weekly Reading/Lecture Quizzes (5 points each / 12 quizzes) o Take Online – must complete by end of each week
Once a quiz closes it will not be reopened
Quizzes will be timed at 20 minutes o 5 multiple choice questions per quiz o Weekly Study Guides provided ~ USE THEM!

Primary Document Essays (15 points each / 1 per grading period o Submit Online through TURNITIN – must complete and submit by due date and time o 1 essay per grading period – 450 word minimum per essay o Select 1 set of primary docs from list and answer WHAT they talks about &
WHY they are important in history ~ detailed instructions on Blackboard

Historical Themed Research Paper (1 per semester) o Submit Online through TURNITIN o Pick any 3 events, concepts, and/or persons, of historical importance (1 from each of the 3 grading periods) and write a compare/contrast THEMED RESEARCH PAPER
List of Historical Themes on Blackboard o 2000 word minimum ~ 8-10 pages (est.= 250 words dbl.spaced 12 font = one page) o MUST have sources cited in paper and bibliography of sources at end.
Minimum 6 scholarly sources – NO WIKIPEDIA
2 sources may be primary documents but not required
EXAMS (50 points each / 1 exam per grading period) o Exams taken from Study Guides for quizzes o In class, multiple choice, scantrons, 25 questions each
MOVIE REVIEW (1 in entire semester) o 1000 word minimum – submit online through TURNITIN o Evaluate and report how the history is treated in the film o List of approved movies on Blackboard ~ bibliography required

Grades for the course will be computed as follows:
A+ = 400 - 390 (100-98%)
C+= 319 - 304 (79-76%)
B+ = 359 - 346 (89-87%) C = 303 - 280 (75-70%)
A = 389 - 375 (97-94%) B = 345 - 333 (86-84%)
A- = 374 - 360 (93-90%) B- = 332 - 320 (83-80%)
D = 279 - 240 (69-60%)
F = 239 - below (59- 0%)
