My Resume First off, let me introduce myself… ● My name is Rachel Martone, and I am currently a senior Marketing and Global Management major, with a double minor in French and Economics, at the University of Pittsburgh, College of Business Administration. ● I will graduate this upcoming April, and am searching for a full-time position, hopefully one that incorporates both of my majors. I plan to get my MBA after I gain a few years’ work experience. ● I participated in the International Internship Program (IIP) through the College of Business Administration in the summer of 2012, in which I studied and worked in Paris, France. ● This experience marked my first marketing internship, where I was able to put the tools and concepts I have been learning about into practice. ● I interned for a small, French startup company by the name of Clé Privée, which translates into English as ‘Secret Key.’ ● For the entire months of June and July, I was a valuable part of this six person team young and passionate friends. ● Clé Privée is an online collection of unique and boutique hotel rooms around the world. ● The firm partners with only the most luxurious and exclusive hotels, villas, and bed & breakfasts. ● Each hotel is featured on a stylish webpage, which includes hotel background, area information and individual room descriptions for its sought-after chambres. ● Access to the collection is now exclusive, serving an elite clientele through paid membership or through the purchase of a ‘key.’ ● Keys are engraved with a personalized code that guests enter online to obtain access to the private selection of beautiful rooms. ● Many of the keys are offered as a gift. The recipient is able to choose his/her favorite from a series of rooms by theme or destination. ● The price of the key dictates the length of the stay and the selection of rooms. ● Clé Privée keys can be purchased online, over the phone, or at high-end department stores in Paris. ● ● The homepage of Clé Priveé An interactive map with ‘Jules the Butler’ Where Did I Fit in at Clé Privée? ● The firm consisted of three Frenchman, one Italian woman, and three American women, including myself. ● I was hired because of my experience abroad, marketing background, and English writing skills. ● The team was behind in creating hotel presentations for their ever-growing partner list, so I was asked to write alluring, yet informative, descriptions. ● My marketing skills were to lend a hand during the brainstorming sessions that are so essential for a new company trying to capture market share. ● I was later given the responsibility of cleaning up the company’s online database, which stores the information presented on the website, which is the main interface. ● After enough time with the company. I was also able to directly respond to customers’ questions and inquiries over email. Generating Marketing Ideas ● From time to time, my coworkers and I brainstormed about ways to reposition the Clé Privée brand using the interactive Google Docs. ● Some parts in French and other parts in English, we worked off of each other’s ideas for new taglines, concepts, and promotions. Writing Samples ● The following are hotel, area, and room descriptions I created for clients based upon websites, pictures, and emails. ● I also used the Internet to research the cities, towns, villages, and nearby attractions. ● I have arranged them by place, to showcase the diverse locations about which I wrote. ● Although I have a large collection constituting 2 months of work, I have chosen these samples because I believe they are my strongest. ● They are arranged alphabetically by country name. ● Enjoy! Although Porto is a busy industrial city, it is very charming. Built along the hillsides overlooking the mouth of the Douro, the urban area is one of the oldest in Europe, dating back to the 4th century. It was once an outpost of the Roman Empire. The fortified wine, port, takes its name from the city. It is hard to know when port was first made. In the 17th century, Britain was at war with France, and hence had a blockade of French wine; it turned to longtime ally, Portugal, for a substitute. Many Englishmen traveled to the Douro River. It was here that they stopped the fermentation of red wine with brandy while it was still sweet, fruity, and strong. The city is extremely hilly, with many buildings built into a cliff face that overlooks the river, and can be laborious for walking tours. It always been and is still a mercantile city. The city center is uniquely baroque; medieval and modern architecture sit side by side. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the Ribeira (River Front) district. There are many good restaurants, bars, pubs, and night clubs. Great places to visit in Porto are the Porto Cathedral, Church of São Francisco church, Portuguese Photography Museum, the Stock Exchange palace, and the Mercado do Bolhão, a traditional food market. Across the river, Vila Nova de Gaia houses the wine cellars. Take a port wine tasting tour and a cruise up the Douro River. Rooms Audience Rooms Hotel Teatro has five Audience Rooms with a view of the inner courtyard. In front, a small free standing wall has a built-in work desk and a TV that can rotate to face the bed or the seating area. There is a splendid four-legged bathtub in the bedroom. A luxurious bathroom housed in glass features a shower with a rainfall shower-head, soft bathrobes, and stylish hisand-her bowl sinks. Explore the wine caves across the Douro River and see how port has been made for centuries here in Porto. There is much to see and do in Porto, so resist the temptation of relaxing in your stylish suite and go discover the mystery of this ancient mercantile town. Gallery Room There are fifty-one Gallery Rooms at Hotel Teatro that have either a view of the historic streets below or of the hotel’s inner courtyard. Elegant décor, luxurious bathrooms, and interconnecting room options make for a perfect stay at this trendy design hotel. Ochre wood furniture is accented by gold and bronze. Area The Zetter Townhouse is located in the Clerkenwell area of central London. It is a convenient location near many attractions, but you’ll really want to spend some time checking out the vibrant culture of Clerkenwell. Clerkenwell has a rich history, beginning in the middle ages when it was named after the parish clerks put on biblical plays. The English monastic headquarters of the Knights Hospitallers, a religious and military order from Jerusalem resided here. More recently, St. John Ambulance Association was headquartered in Clerkenwell. In the the 17th century, Clerkenwell was the place to live, as the likes of Oliver Cromwell, Erasmus Smith, and aristocratic nobles. The Industrial Revolution brought about changes to the area, including the advent of breweries and printing shops; Europe's oldest printing company, Witherby’s, is here. It was also known making highquality watches and clocks. After World War II, the area hit a slump. In the 1980’s, it underwent a revival and gentrification, as offices, nightclubs, and young professionals moved into former industrial buildings. Clerkenwell has seemed to attract many architects and design professionals. It is a very fashion forward part of time . You will find no grass at Clerkenwell Green; it is a well-preserved village center with houses, offices, and pubs. The original Sadler's Wells Theatre from 1683 is one of the top dance venues and producing houses in England. Foodies flock to Clerkenwell for many of London’s best restaurants, such as St. John, Moro, Bistrot Bruno Loubet, and the Michelin starred Club Gascon. Clerkenwell is also home to the first ever gastropub, The Eagle. Room The Townhouse Suite is a classic British affair: a proper sitting room for entertaining guests, a cozy bedroom to rest (or not), and a large tub in which to soak as you sip on tea. Warm colors coat the walls and the antique furnishings. A comfy bed sits under an elegant half canopy surrounded by pretty curtains. The rich striped carpet stretches to the living room with sash windows, an antique coffee table, and a sofa bed. A sumptuous bathroom houses a four-legged tub, a walk-in shower with a rain showerhead, soft bathrobes and slippers, and luxurious REN toiletries. Don’t forget to explore the vibrant Clerkenwell district, and make a reservation at Bistrot Bruno Loubet just across the way at the main Zetter Hotel. End your day at the hotel’s Cocktail Lounge before you stumble happily to your Townhouse Suite. Database Management ● I learned how to enter, organize, and change data for Clé Privée’s online database that generated content for the website. ● I was given the task of sorting through each entry and ensuring that the information was correct and complete. Responding to Customer Inquires ● Near the end of my time at Clé Privée, I spent time emailing influential travel editors, writes, and bloggers with a promotional offer to generate site traffic and spread brand awareness. ● Occasionally, someone would respond to my with questions about the company, the website, and the Clé Privée objective. ● By this time, I was knowledgeable enough about the company to answer questions myself. ● ● Through this delegation of authority, I experienced empowerment. This empowerment gave me confidence in work and my sense of belonging at the company. So after two months working for a small French firm… ● I learned firsthand how an entrepreneurial company functions, and overcomes daily struggles and celebrates small successes. ● I valued the input I was given by my colleagues to work more efficiently and the drive I was given by my superiors to think outside the box. ● I implemented and fine-tuned the marketing tools and concepts I’ve learned in classes. ● I improved my English writing and French speaking skills. ● And most importantly, I gained distinctive knowledge that I will take along with me to my career.
