High School Group – 2nd Summer 2013 Members: Ferdinand P. Anito Mary Ann V. Batula Catherine E. Lozano Emmanuel M. Lugtu Ma. Adeinev M. Reyes Fredric A. Tan I. Course Description This course for third year students on Christian Morality is crafted to promote a better understanding of God’s profound love for humanity particularly for the poor and the oppressed, as clearly manifested in the salvific act of God in the history of the chosen people. This course seeks to enable the students to respond to the call of building the Kingdom of God that Jesus Christ inaugurated by living out the message of the gospel. Moral: realize that our response to God’s love is our constant choice to do what is good—to participate in building the Kingdom of God inaugurated by Jesus Christ. Doctrine: understand that our moral life stems from God’s gratuitous love which is fully revealed in the person of Jesus Christ Worship: celebrate God’s love through daily prayer and the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist UNIT I. Foundation of Moral Principle A. God Enters into a Relationship with Woman and Man God Who Liberates People from Slavery Scripture: Exodus 2-4 Church Teachings: CFC 278-279 Profile of Students in the Third Year: God Who Enters into a Covenant This course is designed for third year students ages 15-16 in an urban area and co-educational setup. These high school students have already gained a working knowledge and understanding of the Old Testament—starting from the call of Abraham down to the prophets—and the life of Jesus Christ in the New Testament, the Church and the Sacraments. As adolescents, they are trying to establish their identity. They perceive the commandments of God as a set of do’s and don’ts that limits their freedom. Working on this context, it is important to teach that Christian Morality is about responding to this God, who by love and for love relates with us.
