Aaron Hultstrand is the new student teacher at ECA. He is from Bismarck, North Dakota and studied at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has really enjoyed the easy availability of fruits and vegetables, and having a wide variety of stores within walking distance. He is also excited about living in a large metropolis like Bogotá since he is from a relatively small city. As a math teacher, he says he loves this subject because of its well formulated proofs and detailed organized problems. In addition to that, he really likes that in math there is no middle ground--it is either right or wrong. He loves reading, cooking, gardening, audiobook recording with Librivox, and woodworking. Before coming to Colombia, he thought fitting in and having people to socialize with would be an issue, but luckily that hasn’t been the case. He really likes the community at ECA and is glad that the teachers and students have been “very welcoming and inclusive”. He enjoys playing sports such as football and baseball, but basketball is his favorite. Elementary Chapel Upper Elementary Third grade taught us that "love does not boast." Boasting is like making a big bubble with gum – it looks big and beautiful but really it is just full of air and will turn into an ugly messy glob. The Bible teaches us that we should not boast about ourselves but about God and what He does in our lives. Third graders did an awesome job of teaching us this lesson through skits and Bible verses. Lower Elementary Juan Carlos Castellanos, Community Care Director, taught students the story of Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal. Students learned that the one true God hears and answers prayer. Secondary HS Retreat The high school retreat in Tenjo last week was a wonderful time of growth and fun. The retreat’s focus was Trust, and it was a great time of restoring broken relationships and building new ones through the sessions, small groups, and team building activities. We talked about topics such as: What does it mean to trust God? Where does my relationship with God need some repair? Where does my relationship with others need repair? How do we listen to the Holy Spirit and how does trust play into that? How can I know that I’m saved? How do I continue to battle sin when I’ve lost the desire? We experienced some substantial growth on this retreat and are thankful for the work that the Lord did in the lives of students.
