Environmental Information Sharing has already started.


Status: initial stage, to provide the public with basic data of
environmental information.
Problem




Difficulty in national integration: every province has its own
information publication system based own national standards; the
national information integration is done vertically via excel sheets.
Difficulty in international integration: the data is recorded
based national environmental standards, which are not a good fit for
GEMET, and there is no mapping between them. Therefore, it leads
to the difficulty of integrating Chinese environmental information
with that of other GEMET-using countries.
Difficulty in utilization: other software systems is difficult to
analyze and utilize the environmental data directly.
Difficulty in participation: it’s difficult to appeal individuals to
participate the information sharing.
Summary

Environmental Information Sharing has already started.




 Standards Mapping and Extension


Formulate GEMET’s Chinese version, and make suggestions to
enrich GEMET’s content according to Chinese national standards

User- friendly interface should be established.
apart from text format, well-defined languages, like XML, RDF and
OWL should be employed to express environmental information.
Environmental terminology’s ontology could be used to support
logical reasoning on environmental information and aid users’
decision




“…Seen from the light of application, ISO/IEC 19763-3
is beneficial for the communication between end user
and system analyzers. …We marked the components
with semantic annotations. Then system analyzers can
seek the components according to user requirements
to create prototype system rapidly. ….This method is
proven much more efficient than before….”

Minister ZHOU Shengxian points out:




By 2015, China will establish an environmental informationization
mechanism that is suitable for the environmental protection in the
new era.
We’ll Construct an advanced and comprehensive “Digital
Environmental Protection” system, to widely support the sharing and
employment of the environmental information resources.
We’ll Establish catalog system and communication platform for
environmental information resources, and forming the work layout
as uniform management, distributed storage, co-operate and coconstruct, and resources sharing.
We’ll improving information systems in business application,
propelling the optimization and coordination of different modules of
business application, and increasing the efficiency of environment
management.
Today, environmental information sharing is been
given weight by China’s government, which is a
good opportunity.
The import Role GEMET has played in environmental
sharing is obvious. The advanced state of the
technology in GEMET has been widely recognized.
We are looking forward to contributing in the
GEMET China Project, to improve China’s
environment information sharing level as well as
enhance the world-wide environmental information
exchange, sharing and employment.
Future work

LI Jian, the Secretary of WHU will try to get contact with
MEP high level




Mr. ZHOU Jian, Mr. XU Qinghua…
They will arrange official meeting on behalf of WHU in 2010
Gain support from MEP, begin GEMET translation work
and provide revision advice based on China National
Standards on environmental terms.
