Data and Technology Analyst
Agricultural & Consumer Economics (ACE)

This position in the Department of Agricultural & Consumer Economics (ACE) will provide database and
software management and support services to foster the research and teaching activities of the department’s
faculty and staff. This is a 12-month Academic Professional position, which will be part-time or full-time
(50% to 100%) dependent upon availability of the successful candidate.
Duties and Responsibilities
 Serve the faculty and staff of the Departments of ACE within the College of ACES and support a
spectrum of IT functions. Primary responsibilities include: the analysis, development, and application
of selected IT services to research activities involving the storage, transmission, processing and
analysis of data from various sources; analysis, recommendation and application of technology to
increase the effectiveness of faculty research, learning and teaching.
 Research, purchase, plan and install future systems, infrastructure and products as well as specialized
software needed for research.
 Consult with users on installation and use of software applications which also interface to or utilize
network connections. Analyze existing system structures in order to optimize operational and cost
effectiveness. For new research projects, conduct analysis of relevant technologies and advise faculty
how to most effectively leverage technology to align with their specific research objectives.
 Advise on use of varied computing and communications technology especially on specialized
software such as SAS, SPSS, ArcGIS, Stata, and Matlab. Maintain and assist staff in running these
software packages, including the preparation and formatting of data for use in these packages.
Research tools and applications that assist users with their specific research needs including consulting
with faculty/staff to determine product or system upgrade needs and/or identify alternative
technologies to complete research initiatives.
 Provide training to faculty, staff, and students on use of research related software and equipment.
 Develop documentation as required for internal use as well as external applications ranging from
educational material for faculty and staff to specific software applications.
Required Qualifications:






Bachelor's degree accompanied by demonstrated in-depth experience in network and systems support.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in current personal computing platforms, workstations,
networking and systems support, software, and hardware.
Ability to research, install, and maintain specialized software for various research groups in the
Department of ACE.
Strong service attitude, ability to effectively handle multiple priorities, good communication skills,
and self-direction in a team environment.
High propensity to keep organized while completing multiple tasks at once.
Strong analytical and decision making skills
Preferred Qualifications:



Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or related field.
Functional understanding of research based principals and structures strongly preferred.
At least one year of professional experience with the installation and maintenance of Microsoft
Windows operating systems in a business or university environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of imaging software (Ghost, SCCM and WDS), GPO application, Windows
Server 2003, 2008 and 2012 server products.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.
Starting Date: This appointment will begin as soon as possible after the closing date.
