INTRODUCTION
Purchasing and supply function is a key contributor to enterprise competitiveness and
profitability. As the result of changes in management philosophy and in operational
approaches, purchasing & supply is today seen as an integral part of the total supply chain
management in an organization, just as it was seen to be related to materials management
and to logistics.
However, purchasing and supply function must firstly recognise the implications of the
‘corporate environment’ if it is to be effective and efficient in supporting the organization.
Thus, exploring various dimensions of the corporate environment that influence the
function enables a good start of an effective purchasing and supply function.
What are some of the techniques and knowledge that can be explored in order to achieve
the common goal of an organization? How do organizations create and form an effective
purchasing and materials management?
This program will highlight the importance of purchasing & supply function, roles &
responsibilities, objectives and strategies in the total Supply Chain Management, at the
same time analysing supply markets and specifying requirements, identifying and
managing suppliers, mastering negotiation skills and costing techniques, preparing
contracts, also measuring and evaluating performance. It is structured to equip the
participants with an overall view of purchasing and supply function and stimulate more
effective practices in the manufacturing industries.
