Back ^_^ In 2003,Hong Kong broke out a typical pneumonia. Many people die for this disease. Dr. Joanna Tse Yuen-Man, 35, a lung and chest specialist at Tuen Mun Hospital, she faithfully continued to report for duty despite the apparent risks of being infected. Some other doctors had refused to attend to SARS patients, seeing it as a death sentence. But Dr. Tse did not shrink back from the task before her. As a doctor her duty was to save lives, and she was among the first medical officers to volunteer for duty in the SARS ward. She was infected while caring for critically ill SARS patients at the Tuen Mun Hospital. What is SARS? Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory infection. It is caused by a coronavirus (SARS-CoV). The incubation period typically ranges from 2-7 days, but can be up to approximately 10 days. The initial symptoms are influenza-like. Patients with SARS usually begin with fever, which is often high (38oC or above), and sometimes associated with chills, rigors, headache, malaise, muscle pain or even diarrhea. After a few days, symptoms of lower respiratory tract infection may follow, including cough without sputum and difficulty in breathing. In around 10% of patients, the illness may rapidly progress to respiratory failure requiring intensive medical care. SARS is predominantly transmitted through close person-to-person contact, especially via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Droplet spread can take place when droplets from the cough or sneeze of an infected person are propelled a short distance and deposited on the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, or eyes of persons who are nearby. The virus can also spread when a person touches a surface or object contaminated with infectious droplets and then touches his or her mouth, nose, or eyes. Back ^_^ There are 3 clinics in Tuen Mun. We must t good care of our teeth. The Government accommodate a specia programme called The School Dental Care Service. Let’s have a at these clinics. Dental Clinic Click ~ School Dental Care Service,Department of Health The School Dental Care Service is a special care programme organized by the Department of Health for all Hong Kong primary school children in the school dental clinics near their schools. The main objectives are to promote good oral hygiene and prevent common dental diseases. A group of well-trained operators and dental therapists under direct supervision of government dental officers provide basic dental treatment. Preventive Oral Care A proper toothbrush allows you to reach all tooth surfaces and remove plaque at the gum margins. The head size of an adult's toothbrush should be as long as the diameter of a one-dollar Hong Kong coin whereas the head size of a child's toothbrush should be as long as the diameter of a 50-cent coin. A worn-out toothbrush should be replaced as it affects proper cleaning and harms your gum. Fluoride toothpaste should be used. Fluoride helps strengthen the teeth and prevents new decay. A very small amount of toothpaste, about the size of a pea, is sufficient for teeth. As for young children, toothpaste is used only if they are able to rinse and expectorate. This avoids excessive fluoride ingestion. The Use of Dental Floss Dental floss is highly recommended as there are inaccessible areas such as in-between teeth surfaces and some tooth surfaces that cannot be thoroughly cleaned by a toothbrush. Flossing Technique The proper method of flossing should be demonstrated by your dentist or dental therapists. Back ^_^ We did a online questionnaire about Tuen Mun’ s Health Services.
