Online Activity - Learning the Ropes to be Successful in Algebra 2
Instructions:
Visit Mrs. Waddell’s School Website via http://www.warrencountyschools.org
o Click on the Directory tab and type in Mrs. Waddell’s information to get to her on-line classroom.
o Click on the link to your class at the left (Algebra 2 /Pre-AP Algebra 2).
o Open the file “Online Activity – Learning the Ropes”
o You will need a piece of paper, a pencil, and a graphing calculator. Complete each task for the online activity.
o Jot down responses on your paper when prompted to do so. Ask Mrs. Waddell if something does not make
sense. Good luck!
Task #1:
o On your class’ webpage, read the announcement about Schoology and click on the Schoology link. You will need to set
up a Schoology account if you do NOT already have one (be sure to use a valid email address) or sign in if you already
have an account. The Algebra 2 / Pre-AP Algebra 2 course access code that you will input is noted on the board.
o Once you have added the Algebra 2 / Pre-AP Algebra 2 course to your Schoology page, explore the “Start-Up Things”
Folder.
o Go to “An Introduction to Function Families and How They Transform” Folder. View the video called “TI84 Graph a
Line and Find Table of Values”. Follow along on your own calculator…
o Still in “An Introduction to Function Families and How They Transform” Folder, view the video called “Using Function
Notation – What is f(x)?”. On your sheet of paper for Task #1, take notes over this video.
Tasks #2 and #3:
o Visit the Prentice Hall Website via www.phsuccessnet.com. (It can also be accessed via your class’ webpage via Mrs.
Waddell’s website under the Class Files / Links tab).
o Log on to this site using the following information - your username is your “student id #” followed by an “A2” and the
password is “Spartan14”.
o Click on Open Book. On your sheet of paper for Task #2, write down the title for Chapter 1 Section 4.
o Visit Page 30 in your online textbook. On your sheet of paper for Task #3, solve then write down the answer for
problem #10 on page 30.
o Close your textbook and go back to the welcome screen. Click on Student Resources and browse the resources that are
available to you. After browsing some, click on Chapter 1 and then click on Homework Video Tutors. Choose one to
view. On your sheet of paper for Task #3, write down the name of the lesson that you viewed and describe
what the video is about in one or two sentences.
Tasks #4 and #5
o Logout as Student.
o Now, login as Testing. The password is testing
o Be patient and wait for the Exam View Test Generator to pop up.
o Step 1: Enter your name (First Last) and the last four digits of your student id# and then click “Next”.
o Step 2: Click on the folder that says “Macintosh HD ExamView Player” > “ExamView alias”. Then, double click on Mrs.
Waddell’s Folder (Julie Waddell). (The assessments will be greyed out, but by double clicking Mrs. Waddell’s Folder
you will be taken directly to the assessment. If you are not taken directly to the assessment, then you should highlight
the assigned assessment called ALGEBRA 2 PRETEST and choose “Next”.
o Step 3: Enter the password when prompted to do so. The password is I<3MATH. Then, click “Next”. This will result
in the exam opening.
o Step 4: Begin the assessment. On your sheet of paper for Task #4, do scratch work for the problems that you
know how to do. If you have no clue how to answer a problem, then leave it blank. Be sure to read each
problem and answer the ones that you know how to do.
o Step 5: Upon completion of the assessment, you will be able to view the assessment to see which ones that you have
answered incorrectly. Your score will also be visible at the top of the exam.
o On your sheet of paper for Task #5, write down the score that you earned on the ALGEBRA 2 PRETEST and
circle it.
Task #6
o Upon completion of Tasks #1-5, write your name on your paper and turn it in to Mrs. Waddell.
o Come to class prepared tomorrow with pencil, paper, and graphing calculator !
o You may visit Cool Math Games in the remaining class time.
Download
