Between now and January 2012: -> The SPDO will become the (legal) SKA Project Office (SPO) • Interim Director-General (Michiel van Haarlem ex-ASTRON) • SPO has management & system authority for the whole project • SPO will oversee the global effort – largely via Work Package Consortia (i.e. Participating Organisations + Industry) • The baseline plan for the Pre-construction phase is the PEP (2012 – end 2015 -> ready to build) • Funding for the PEP is essentially ‘national’ – with some contracts possibly emanating from the SPO SKA Ltd Goals of the Pre-Construction Phase Jan 2012 – Dec 2015 1. Get the SKA design to Production Readiness Review stage and let contracts for construction of major sub-systems 2. Progress infrastructure roll-out on the selected site to allow subsystems to be deployed 3. The SPO team comprises a Technical Project Manager, System Engineer and Engineers. WP7.4 – Digital Data Backhaul This work will include the detailed definition and monitoring of interfaces, review of designs and the completion of procurement ready datapacks. Prototype systems will be constructed and test software/firmware developed, if applicable.
