I did my observations with her at the Elementary school. As the students began to arrive to school the students had to write in the folder for the morning were they wrote about what they were thankful for thanksgiving break. After they finished their writing they could play a dice game that had the students adding the numbers they rolled on the dice and then after they added up the number they had to color the object a certain color depending on the number or they could read a book. Then after the students finished their morning work she brought the students together and reviewed how to tell time on a clock. They reviewed telling time like one O’clock and one thirty. Then she taught the students learned about how to tell time when it was a quarter past or a quarter after they practiced and learned the time skills with a little clock that miss she had me pass out to each of the students and they practiced telling time until the students had to go to their special which was music. In music the students were practicing for their winter Christmas concert. Towards the end of the music class the school had a fire drill which was kind of ironic as in the previous class I had observed they talked about fire safety and how the students need to follow there preparedness plan. After the fire drill and everyone went back inside the student got ready for lunch and then went to recess. After the students came back in from recess the students went up to the front of the class and the students started to learn words with the u sound. She had flash cards and the students had to tell she whether or not the word made the u sound. Then she finished with the words and started read the thanksgiving Black Lagoon book and they started only the first chapter of the book. I was then back with her on Thursday December 5th. The students wrote a in there journals while I was helping her by cutting out flash cards that why the students could practice with them in class. When the students finished they started to work on their scrolls which they had already started in another class but these were just a number scroll and the students stopped at one hundred. The new part that they would be adding would start at one hundred and one and then end at two hundred and ten. She then started to read to read a book about letters and the postmen which were letters from different fictional story characters the students only go to hear half the story then the students went out to recess and then came back in for lunch. After lunch she started to read Jody B. Jones Christmas book and the only read the first chapter book. Then the students started writing Christmas cards to Santa for Christmas in the letter the students had to write what they wanted for Christmas and if they deserved to get what they wanted for Christmas. I made another connection from my Psych 100 class some of the students were having trouble writing from one hundred and up as some of the students would write to many ones in the hundred. I think this could have been a problem as in certain stages of cognitive development students have problems recognizing numbers. So the practice that she is having the students practice can help with getting the students to recognize numbers. In think she is doing a great job with her class I think that the why that she chose the books to read off of the holiday and that kind of supports of being thankful and the importance of the holidays. I think that she does a great job of working with her students when the kids in her class are frustrated while they were writing for their number scrolls one of the students was getting upset with how they didn’t know how to count up from 120 and up then the student was starting to throw a fit be she remained calm with the student and helped him finish the scroll page.
