MALAYSIA’S TOURISM HIGHLIGHTS – OCTOBER 2014
PUTRAJAYA, 19 September 2014 – A line-up of well-balanced events comprising food, sports, and
culture will kick off the final quarter of 2014! Among the noteworthy events that will take place in
October are:
14TH MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL GOURMET FESTIVAL (MIGF) 2014
Held throughout the month of October, the top chefs from hotels and restaurants nationwide will
try to outdo one another to entice and excite food lovers with their most innovative menus!
With the theme “Red Hot Chefs!”, the cuisines on offer during MIGF 2014 include Cantonese,
French, Indochinese, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Malay, Sichuan, Sri Lankan, and Thai. Building on the
success of 14 consecutive years, the MIGF is an integral part of Tourism Malaysia’s “Fabulous Food
1Malaysia” initiative.
Get ready to enjoy a delectable feast!
Note: The special MIGF preview event - Taste MIGF - will take place from 27 to 28 September 2014,
11am to 10pm at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre. Food lovers are invited to indulge in a “Super
Gourmet Safari” as the Festival Restaurants gather in a specially created “Theatre of Cuisines” to
serve up tasting portions from their Festival Menus. There will also be an Epicure International
Gourmet Village, Cooking Classes, Lifestyle Workshops and a LuxuryPlus Showcase.

SIME DARBY LGPA MALAYSIA 2014
One of the world’s top women’s golf tournaments is celebrating its fifth anniversary this October
at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).
Defending Champion and World No.8* Lexi Thompson (U.S) will be up against some big name
players such as World No.1* Stacy Lewis (U.S), World No.3* Lydia Ko (New Zealand), World No.4*
Suzann Pettersen (Norway) and a host of other top players including the six ‘Malaysian Angels’ Jean Chua, Aretha Pan, Ainil Bakar, Michelle Koh, Michele Low and Kelly Tan.
As part of the celebration, the tournament will boast a schedule of activities offering everyone five
days of first class entertainment both on and off the course such as the Poolside Fiesta, Malaysian
international cuisine showcase, health and beauty treatments, and fun activities to enjoy.
Themed “Women with Drive”, a key feature of the festivities will be Ladies Day (Friday), Pink
Saturday and Family Day (Sunday), each with its own distinctive character, designed to appeal to
different sectors of the community.

For the second year in a row, Langkawi will host a leg of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)
Mountain Bike (MTB) marathon - the fifth edition of the Langkawi International Mountain Bike
Challenge (LIMBC) 2014.
Featuring six stages in 85 km round island race track, the course presents an exciting yet demanding
world class open single track trails; traversing a multitude of terrains including rubber plantations,
idyllic beaches, paddy fields, mountainous jungle and a 300 million-year-old rainforest.

You Tough Enough?
While casual climbers may take an average of two days, professional mountain runners can clock
as fast as 4 hours to scale the Mount Kinabalu in the “World’s Toughest Mountain Race” – 24th Mt.
Kinabalu International Climbathon – Adventure Series 2014!
The Adventure Race (19 October), which is open to the general public – involves a long run on 15
km of tarmac road and 8 km of forest trails while the Summit Race (18 October) is only open to
qualified runners, which takes a long run on 15 km of tarmac road and 18 km of forest trails with
the rock face at the summit.
The route of the race offers breath taking views of Kinabalu Park’s tropical and sub-tropical
montane forest with vistas of the summit peaks and river valleys.

Two-Wheel Racing Fans Alert!
The Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2014 sets to be an exciting affair as it is the
second last round of the MotoGP World Championship with 90 riders participating in 3 classes of
the Championship (Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP).
With bigger impact this year, Malaysia will be having five national riders competing in the MotoGP:
Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Ongetta-AirAsia Racing Team), Amirul Hafiq Azmi (SIC-Ajo Racing Team) and
Hafiza Rofa (Wildcard Rider) are rivals for Moto3TM category while Azlan Shah (IDEMITSU Honda
Team Asia) and Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia) are contenders in Moto2TM category.
Off the track, two-wheel racing fans can expect up to 80 trade and vending operators including bike
manufacturers to offer their latest products and offerings. Fans will also get to experience the pit

KELANTAN INTERNATIONAL ROCK CLIMBING CHALLENGE 2014
Ideal for thrill-seekers, the inaugural Kelantan International Rock Climbing Challenge 2014 is here
to promote rock climbing as an element of sports tourism and at the same time highlight the
ecological conservation of the Gua Musang area.
Numerous nature-themed activities will be featured during the event, such as an open-to-all fun
climb, technical and skills workshops by experienced rock climbers, BBQ dinner for all climbers,
tourism quiz and knotting activities.

CIMB CLASSIC 2014
First teed off in 2010, the CIMB Classic is a 72-hole stroke play event combining players from three
official sanctioning bodies – the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour, the Asian Tour and
the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM).
With a prize purse of USD7 million and one of the richest professional golf tournaments in the
region, it will once again feature 78 top players from the PGA Tour’s FedExCup, Asian Tour order of
Merit and Malaysia.
This year’s tournament will be played on the West Course, an international championship Par 72
course which was completely redesigned by renowned international golf course architects E&G
Parslow in 2008.

MALAYSIA TOURISM PROMOTION BOARD OR TOURISM MALAYSIA is an agency under the Ministry of Tourism &
Culture, Malaysia. Tourism Malaysia focuses on the specific task of promoting Malaysia at all levels. Since its inception,
Tourism Malaysia has grown by leaps and bounds and it has emerged as a major player in the international tourism
scene. In 2013, Malaysia registered 25.7 million tourist arrivals and RM65.4 billion in receipts, making tourism its second
largest foreign exchange earner and the sixth highest contributor to its Gross National Income (GNI).
Malaysia is celebrating its fourth VISIT MALAYSIA YEAR (VMY) in 2014 with the theme “Celebrating 1Malaysia Truly
Asia”. The VMY 2014 promotional campaign has started in 2013 with a series of year-long special events and activities
leading to VMY 2014. It will contribute to the Government’s target to receive 36 million tourist arrivals and RM168 billion
in receipts by 2020, as outlined in the Tourism NKEA (National Key Economic Area).
Through the Tourism NKEA, collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, other Government
agencies and the private sector have been enhanced to help secure Malaysia’s position as a leading tourist destination.
The targets set under the Tourism NKEA will be achieved through the implementation of twelve Entry Point Projects
(EPPs) clustered under five themes: Affordable Luxury; Nature Adventure; Family Fun; Events, Entertainment, Spa and
Sports; and Business Tourism.
