Tech Task #6

- Create a lesson plan:

Find an outcome(s) you would be interested in having students learn. Find a technological tool which will support students/enhance students learning with regards to the outcome. Try to create a lesson which will fit in the upper levels of Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy.
Try to weave in some teaching and learning about Cybersafety and/or Digital Citizenship that will help your students to use their digital tool properly and effectively.

This is my first lesson plan and I know it is full of flaws but I tried to follow the examples given as closely as possible.

Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy:

Higher Order Thinking Skills

Creating- Video blogging- WordPress

Evaluating- Blog commenting and reflecting

Analysing- Survey (social networking)

Applying- Presentation (PowerPoint)

Understanding- mind map (Mind Meister)

Remembering- blog journaling- Wordpress

Lower Order Thinking Skills

Before we can understand a concept we have to remember it Before we can apply the concept we must understand it Before we analyse it we must be able to apply it
Before we can evaluate its impact we must have analysed it
Before we can create we must have remembered, understood, applied,
analysed, and evaluated.

ELA- informative writing- create an informative presentation on a researched topic which will later be reflected in one owns personal writing.

Task:

Students research Cybersafety and Cyberbullying working with a group of up to 5 students using the sites provided and using the Mind Meister map. Create a PowerPoint presentation to be shared with the class. Individually, reflect on what was learned in WordPress blog, comment on fellow peer’s blogs, and video blog about personal experiences for the teacher.

Outcome:

Learn about the importance of Digital Citizenship and identifying ways to prevent Cyberbullying.

Indicator:

Examine technological-advanced learning that has increased due to the evolution and everchanging technology online.

Big Ideas:

These are the powerful concepts that students can apply in a cross circular manner (Digital

Citizenship, Cybersafety, Cyberbullying). The big ideas will be discussed in Mind Meister so that students can understand the concepts that we are working towards in the lessons.

Essential Questions:

What is Digital Citizenship?

What is Cybersafety?

How do we make sure we are safe on the Internet?

What is Cyberbullying?

How does it differ from bullying?

Is Cyberbullying worse than other forms of bullying?

What can we do to prevent Cyberbullying?

The essential questions will be used as a guide within the lesson to help students answer them before they work in their groups on their research and presentation. These questions are made to take Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy into consideration to produce a higher level thinking among the students. Creating, evaluating, analysing, applying, understanding, and remembering will all be demonstrated by the students in the lesson. The essential questions are a part of the applying level, which will then be covered in their PowerPoint.

Pre-assessment:

The lesson will start with students completing a survey that will introduce students to the terms that will be covered and will survey their digital footprint. This is a good assessment for the teacher to see what her students know and how little or how many understand the terms and have experienced the topics to be covered. Students have different ideas regarding bullying in the online world making them the most knowledgeable.

Materials Needed:

Google Survey

WordPress blog

Computers

Internet

Microsoft Powerpoint

Concept-Development:

Based on the information gathered, I will disperse the two topics of Cybersafety and

Cyberbullying after explaining what Digital citizenship is. The students will be grouped in groups of 4-5 to discover more about one of two topics and create a presentation collaboratively. Some groups will learn about Cybersafety, while the other half will learn about Cyberbullying. Students will be given two websites to gather their information and will have to gather information from at least one other online resource (Youtube video, Google, etc). Students will have to answer questions in their Microsoft PowerPoint and present information to the class. After the presentations, students will reflect in their WordPress blog and comment on other peers’ reflections. Individually, they will create a video blog of their experiences working in a group and their own personal experiences with Cybersafety, Cyberbullying, and Digital Citizenship that will

Allyson Haukeness 3 be viewed by the teacher only. The students will research in the lab in their groups and complete their presentation on the lab computers. Before they move into the lab to begin, the essential questions will be asked and the task will be outlined. They will complete the survey before working in groups the day before this lesson is introduced. The students will be supervised in the lab and will be reminded that their computers are being monitored for appropriate content to make sure they are keeping on task. There will be class time given to work on the project, but the blog aspect will be done for homework the day after the presentations are given. This gives the student a chance to ask questions while working on their research and presentation in school and personal space to complete their reflection, comments, and video response on their blog at home.

Creating, the highest level of Blooms Taxonomy will be depicted through their presentation and their blog. This project will also raise awareness of Cybersafety and Cyberbullying, so that their can understand their actions online and make adjustments to anything that is considered inappropriate online behaviour.

Assessment:

To have the students able to explain and apply the knowledge gathered and learned from their research. As a class we will brainstorm ideas use the Mind Meister I created and modify the ideas and narrow down topics. The web map can be changed in many ways to accommodate new ideas and the moving of ideas into other categories. Using the three key terms discussed the students can self-assess the process of learning the topics (survey, questions, Mind Meister, etc) to provide descriptive feedback for the evaluation of the material that they created. The rubric used will be adapted from Blooms Taxonomy in which 4 levels will be used.

Closure/Summary:

Summarize the main ideas presented to the students and make sure it is very clear of the dangers of not practicing Cybersafety and the negative and long-lasting effects of Cyberbullying. This lesson plan will be used at the beginning of a unit that pertains to the informative and creating outcome.

In groups of 4-5 you will be assigned to research either Cybersafety of Cyberbullying.

Explore either Stop Cyberbullying or Cybersafety and at least one other online source for your topic.

In your groups, create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on:

-the information from the websites including

-Explanations of Cybersafety and Cyberbullying

-how to take action to keep yourself safe on the internet

-how to properly deal with Cyberbullying

-the dangerous outcomes of Cybersafety and Cyberbullying

In your WordPress blogs:

-create a reflection on information learned that you did not know before

-comment on other classmate reflections

-create a video reflecting on your personal experiences with Cybersafety and Cyberbullying that will only be accessed by the teacher
