Mass Media Timeline Over the course of the semester you will be working with several classmates to create a mass media, multimedia, timeline using the social media timeline creator: http://www.tiki-toki.com/ You will present this timeline to the class in order to teach your classmates the particular section of mass media history that you have been assigned. To begin, you will need to set up a free account at tiki-toki.com that is linked to the COMM171 instructor account. You will need the following information: Username: Password: Email: Student Code: 38892-193860360 After setting up the account, give yourself plenty of time to experiment with the site so you understand what you are working with. You may create one account per group or you can set individual accounts to work together on a project. Each group will deal with one of the following time periods (determined by random drawing) Beginning to 1899 (Tiffany’s sample) 1900-1920 1920-1940 1940-1960 1960-1980 1980-2000 2000-2014 Assignment Requirements Each timeline should, at a minimum, have at least 10 entries and be presentable in a time span of 15-20 minutes. It should also feature at least 1 media effect and application of that effect (chapter 14). Beyond this, do whatever you and your partner deem necessary to create a functional and informative look at mass media during your period of time. Your timelines should draw upon all of the technological options available to you (pictures, video, web links, etc.) and they should be both aesthetically pleasing and practical. In short, the timelines should demonstrate the best that modern mass media has to offer: unlimited information, collaboration, creativity, convergence, and synergy. You will present these timelines to the class in chronological order over the course of the semester. Grades will be based on creation and presentation of the timeline and all group members will receive the same grade. Finally, along with the timeline and presentation, you must also send Tiffany 10 test questions that cover the material covered in your timeline. The questions must be multiple choice (5 options) or fill-in-the-blank and should be sent to Tiffany in an email before you present to the class. These questions will appear on class assessments.
