Step 4 – Academic Journal Research
The most effective research papers pull from unique sources that enhance the opinion you are trying to explain.
Scholarly or peer-reviewed journal articles are written by scholars or professionals who are experts in their fields.
These articles give a research-based perspective on a specific topic for a specific field. The diversity of information
can be overwhelming at times, but search tips can allow you find an article that supports, differs from, or qualifies
your overall impression/interpretation/opinion over Myers Briggs and your personality type.
You are going to choose one academic journal article source specific to your area of interest regarding Myers
Briggs and your personality type.
When choosing your source, keep several tips in mind:
1.
Look at sources which cover a variety of viewpoints on Myers Briggs and your personality type.
2.
Use the EBSCO Database for your search, narrowing down the fields and types of articles.
3.
Read article descriptions and skim through articles before dismissing them; sometimes there could be only
one or two sections of an article that could be relevant to your focus.
4.
Consider the validity of your sources; make sure what you are looking at is an academic journal article.
5.
Make sure you are looking for relevant quotes that are no longer than one sentence in length in all your
sources.

Research Paper
Section Titles
Using Guiding Questions: You will be using open-ended questions as the section titles throughout your
research paper.
Developing your section titles: From your working thesis, your quickwrite of questions, and your
Cornell Notes, you will develop open-ended questions that you genuinely would like to answer or
discuss throughout your research paper. Using your working thesis and your knowledge of the 550-750
word count for this paper, decide how many section titles you will need to include in your paper. These
questions should be open-ended and each connect differently to your thesis statement. (Use mainly
how or what questions.)
Examples:
How could knowing I’m INFJ help my life?
How accurate is the Myers Briggs Test?
Section Guidelines:
Each section of your research paper should include one-two paragraphs of writing.
Each section should also include at least one piece of text evidence, including an in-text citation, from a
source listed in your Works Cited page.
Each section should address an open-ended question that connects to all or part of your thesis
statement.
Use as many section titles as it takes to discuss the complexities of your thesis statement.
