framework for the NAACP
education advocacy
and our
Strategic Plan
• Eliminate the achievement and diversity in staffing gaps
which exist in our schools. ( policy review, development,
accountability – community report)
• Achieve equitable school funding targeted to the neediest
students (process for continuing funds when grants end)
• Collaborating with other organizations to involve parents
and the community to ensure that students’ needs are
met, and that students, parents and community voices are
heard
• Promote early childhood literacy and pre-K as a foundation
for early-childhood literacy are integral parts of the plan
• Expand learning opportunities for students and adults
Diversity and Equity-Eliminating the Gaps
• Advocated for hiring a Diversity and Equity Specialist
• Advocated for a BOE Diversity and Equity Advisory
Committee to involve community stakeholders in:
• Understanding diversity & equity issues and challenges in
our schools
• Assisting with reviewing and analyzing data to help provide
creative solutions to problems dealing with diversity and
equity issues in our schools or issues in the community that
impact our schools.

Purpose of the Youth Work Committee: To collaborate with the
Youth Council Executive Committee to plan and coordinate the
programs for the Youth Council, train the Youth Council officers,
and provide experiences that educate youth about the civil rights
and social issues facing our nation today. We do not have a
Youth Council. We did lead and or support the youth focus areas
that follow:
• Basketball 4 LYFE - Rise to the Challenge- College & Career
Fair
• St. Mary’s County Reads
• Southern Maryland Youth Ministries
• St. Joseph’s Recreation Center
• National Society of Black Engineers, Jr. of Southern Maryland
NAACP Sponsorship - Rise to the Challenge
Basketball 4 L.Y.F.E. (Love, Youth, Family and Education), founded by Jeff
Burrell in 2010, utilizes the influence of strong volunteers, coaches,
military personnel, and college
students to improve the quality of
living in our community through
mentorship, events, tutoring, and the
game of basketball. Basketball 4
L.Y.F.E.’s (BB4L) mission is to bring
together community leaders and
members of the basketball
community to improve the lives of
youth and families by educating them on BB4LYFE core values: Hard
work, Teamwork, Discipline and Dedication to Academic Success.
