Nancy Curley Assignment 7, EDTC 6035 November 7, 2013 I started my search by registering with ePals at www.epals.com. I was contacted by a few teachers there but they were only interested in corresponding with classroom children as pen pals or in some sort of classroom collaboration. I was not able to get anyone to answer my survey questions. My husband had recently helped a local elementary school connect with a school in Denmark and he suggested joining a technology group in Edmodo. I already had an Edmodo account so I just searched for a group to join. I introduced myself and stated that I was a graduate student looking for a teacher outside of the United States to answer some questions about ITC in their schools. I had three teachers answer my survey that same evening. Ms Pilgrim is a teacher at a British school located in the United Arab Emirates. She is an ITC/Computing and Business teacher at a private school. She received a post graduate degree in the United Kingdom. Her school requires a degree and teaching credentials. Nancy Curley Assignment 7, EDTC 6035 November 7, 2013 Mr. Bragais is a Computer teacher at a private school in the Philippines. The Casa Del Nino School is a Montessori school. He answered the question about his credentials “in Tesda”. I researched this and found that TESDA stands for Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Their website showed courses in bartending, housekeeping, culinary arts and technical skills. So I am thinking this is some sort of jobs training school. There was no mention of degrees. She received her degree in the USA but it is unclear to me if she is American. She has a BS in secondary education and a masters in Literature. She describes her school as an e-learning school in which students are issued iPads and textbooks are e-books. o Mrs. Strong • Oct 8, 2013 I'm in the UAE at an e-learning school. o Mrs. Strong • Oct 8, 2013 We are an e-learning school. Our focus is vocational learning with an emphasis in engineering, business, ICT and health. At year 11, my students have ICT 3 periods a week. For English, we are teaching to the ILETS and CEPA exams and for Maths and Sciences they are doing the IGCSE curriculum. Because these are not native speakers, the students spend 14 periods a week in English classes to support them in their vocational classes. I received my teaching degree in the US, with a BA in secondary education and I also have an MA in literature. I’m struggling with the whole iPad usage as my education didn’t focus on e-learning. I went to a small university that did not have access to all of these new tech tools. I’m learning quite a bit from my students are they are quite adept in the use of the iPads. They are not supposed to have games on the ipads but they find ways to sneak them in. We are a government school but here that means for Emirate students only. less...
