Criminal Justice Studies 101: Survey of Criminal Justice Service Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Question 14 SLO 1 Students will learn about and demonstrate comprehension of basic methods by which criminal-justice professionals analyze and document patterns of criminal behavior. SLO 2 Students will be given the opportunity to analyze and demonstrate comprehension of the theoretical explanations for criminal behavior. Specific components of the criminal-justice system will be presented in detail. They are criminal law, policing, courts, sentencing, probation, parole, community corrections, and institutionalized corrections. SLO 3 Students will explore and identify possible causes and explanations of criminal behavior, and they will gain an enhanced understanding of the appropriateness and effectiveness of specific types of corrective sentencing (e.g., community corrections vs. institutionalized corrections). SLO 4 Through various writing assignments, students will apply definitions, concepts, and theories relevant to the study of behavior. This process will allow students to reflect upon and to incorporate within their life experiences a newfound knowledge of behavior.
