NATIONAL BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY
AT HOLLY TREE CHAPEL
September 20, 2015
Back to Church Sunday is the largest annual community-based church outreach effort in the nation.
It is a campaign strategically designed to help churches like ours reach out and invite everyone in our
community to try church again – or perhaps attend church for the very first time. This powerful national
campaign brought over a million people back to church last year on this special day. This year over 30,000
churches are participating in the campaign, including Holly Tree Chapel. Our main goal in participating in
Back to Church Sunday is to bring people from surrounding communities to our church. After all, we have a
beautiful church with outstanding facilities and programs, a friendly and caring congregation, and, according
to many, the very best Bible teaching pastor in the area. So why not share our blessings with others?
On September 20th, we will offer Starbuck’s coffee and cookies in our Coffee Shop for visitors who
arrive early for the worship service. Everyone coming to church that day will be asked to wear a name tag
that will be available at the Welcome Table. (This is very important as the name tag will serve as a ticket to
the picnic to be held after the worship service). The worship service will begin at 10:00 a.m. as usual and will
feature the Alert Mixed Chorus, other musical performances by Jonathan, Benjamin and friends, and a special
sermon by Pastor Tim -- all meant to compel and inspire our visitors to return to the Chapel on subsequent
Sundays. Everyone attending the worship service will be also asked to fill out a special “Connection Card” that
will be included in the worship bulletin that day and place it in the offering plate. After the worship service,
tours of the Chapel facilities will be offered followed by a picnic lunch in our Serenity Garden. There will be
a few games for the kids set up in and around the play yard. The celebration should wrap up around 1:00-1:30
p.m.
As you can see, in order for this outreach event to be a success, every person who calls Holly Tree
Chapel “their church home” needs to “get on board” and participate in this event in some way. The first, and
most important, thing everyone can do is to PRAY over our event and for the non-attending members of our
community, friends, and family. Engage God in prayer and ask for a better understanding of how to connect
with un-churched friends and ask to see them respond to invitations to our church.
Secondly and equally important, there are numerous opportunities and a great need for volunteers.
We are sending postcard invitations to approximately 2,500 households in the Holly Lake Ranch and
Brookhaven subdivisions. We also are running ads inviting people to Back to Church Sunday at Holly Tree
Chapel in the September issues of The Country Mailer and The Journal. These two publications reach
approximately 6,000 households. So, it is possible that we will have 200+ visitors on Sunday, September 20 th.
For us to have the most successful event possible, we need people do a variety of things: put up posters
around the neighborhood and/or pass out personal invitations prior to the event; serve on the Greeter Team;
host in the Coffee Shop; provide general security in and around the Chapel; work at the Welcome Table; serve
on the Hospitality/Food Service Team; serve as Tour Guides; bake cookies for the coffee shop and the picnic;
and help with follow-up efforts by serving on the Assimilation Team.
To respond to this call to service, send an email to jpyle@hughes.net or sign-up on the Back to
Church Sunday sheet in the Narthex. Individual team meetings will be scheduled in the near future so don’t
delay. Please make a commitment to participate today -- September 20th will be here before we know it!
Blessings to all, Jeannette Pyle

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY AND FELLOWSHIP
September Newsletter
By Jeannette Pyle, President
Excitement is in the air at Holly Tree Chapel because Women’s Fellowship has a
fantastic year planned for 2015-2016.
The “new year” of studies and programs begins on Tuesday, September 8, at
10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall at the Chapel. On the 8th, Jeannette Pyle (President) will be
introducing the “theme” (“Remaining in the Vine”) and Bible verse (John 15:5) for the year
and discussing how the group plans to accomplish their goals for the year. Francine Evans
(Vice President of Bible Study) will give an overview of the three Bible studies that have
been chosen for the group this year – Beth Moore’s “Children of the Day – 1&2
Thessalonians,” Chip Ingrams’ “The Invisible War” and Jim Cymbala’s “When God’s People
Pray.” Workbooks for the Beth Moore study will be available for purchase at $15.00 each,
and the study will kick off on the following Tuesday, September 15 th. In addition, Jerry
Ramsey, Vice President of Service Projects, will present several ideas to the group for
chapel and community service for the 2015-2016 year.
We will also briefly discuss the guests scheduled for our Fellowship Tuesdays during
the coming year, the first of whom is Barbara Cooper on September 22nd. Barbara’s tells
us that she’s been singing most of her life, and her ministry for at least 30 years has been
music. She’s performed at various venues including Gospel Opry’s, Revivals, Ladies’
Retreats and church services as she loves every opportunity to share God’s love through
music. On a more personal note, Barbara has been married to her high school sweetheart
for 41 years. She and her husband, who pastors Turner Baptist Church in Wills Point, Texas,
have three children and eight grandchildren. The group will enjoy a “pot luck” luncheon
after Barbara’s musical presentation.
As you can see, meaningful studies and uplifting programs/presentations are
definitely in store for the Women’s Fellowship group during this coming year. All the ladies
of the Chapel and the surrounding community are invited to join us as we meet to learn
more from the Bible and enjoy Christian fellowship. There is no cost to join the group.
Just come and bring your Bible (plus a friend if you like) every Tuesday morning at 10:00
a.m. in Fellowship Hall at the Chapel!
A Reflection of Faith
By Mark Nowak
Maintaining the grounds around the Serenity Garden is quite a chore, but many hands
made it possible. One project was to level the benches. It was quite obvious that the
pedestals were askew, due to the ground for the bases being deteriorated, which, in turn,
would make the bench out of level.
The walkways are paved in loose pea gravel. Originally the benches had been installed
to sit on top of the gravel, but through the course of time the bench became a little more
slanted and once they begin to slant the integrity of the bench begins to diminish. A solid
foundation under the pedestals would be a great solution.
During the planning of this project I found a correlation of this project to be at the
root of so many problems that we, as Christians, face on a daily basis…….. Let us consider
ourselves as the pedestals of the bench. Let us also consider the loose pea gravel as
representing Faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lastly, let us consider the elements of
the weather as being the evils that lurk in our society that tempt us into eroding our Christian
belief.
Should we not have a strong foundation to stand over the temptations and evils of
society we too will begin to lean to the left or right of our true belief in our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. The strong foundation that we must maintain as our foot hold that I’m referring
to is found in the Wisdom of our Bibles.
We as Christians need to stand firm upon our Faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Each one of us must stand upright with full knowledge that our strong Faith in Jesus will resist
any outside influences, temptations, and evils that hide in the shadows of our society. Keep in
mind, Isaiah 41:10 (NASB) ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you,
for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you
with My righteous right hand.’
During our daily routines take some time and give thanks to God for all of His creation.
Many of these correlations are right in front of us; all we have to do is open our heart to the
Lord in order to see them.
