Homework: Get class supplies (lined college composition book) and write a Type I writing
about you as a writer. You may use a blank piece of paper. Skip lines and try to write a total of
seven lines or use fourteen lines total.
Wednesday:
Share class writings
Make a list of class strengths/weaknesses on the Smartboard
Begin discussing Fiction: pp. 2-3 of textbook
Note: You can use your journal for notes, but do not label your notes like journals.
Homework: Pick a novel and a memorable character to put at the bottom of your notes.
Thursday:
Discuss novels and characters from class notes
Discuss: Why do we need a good vocabulary and how do I make my vocabulary better?
Get 14 words for first vocabulary quiz on Monday (iPads needed)
Friday:
Station work:
Station One (whole class): Using textbook handout and “Thank You Ma’am” by
Langston Hughes, get a definition that includes the part of speech for the vocabulary
word.
Station Two: As a group, find a picture that shows the definition you just used for that
word. Then, write sentences that use the words correctly, including the part of speech.
Station Three: Quiz each other using the pictures, definitions, and sentences. The first
couple of times you may give yourself a word bank, but after two times, try to remember
the words and attempt to spell them correctly without aid.
Homework: Study vocabulary words for the quiz Monday.

Use PowerPoint to create study slides for the vocabulary list. Ms. Maxson will model. Even if you are
finished, we are going to all use this format now.

4. Decide on a song that would be good to have playing
in the background of each scene. Give the full name

If you are finished reading, answer the following question to work on the “EXTRA CREDIT FUN” collage
project.
-What book does Atticus pick up to read while Jem is laying in the bed at the end of the novel?
Collage Project: Using your iPad, a computer, or the magazines in the room, put together a
collage of pictures that have to do with one of the main characters. You may not use any people in
your collage, only objects, places, etc. You can choose from: Mayelle Ewell, Bob Ewell, Tom
Robinson, Atticus Finch, Scout Finch, Jem Finch, Boo Radley, OR Calpurnia. The object is to get
the class to guess who the person is based on the pictures you use. You must use at least five
pictures, but no more than ten. Keep all pictures on an 8x10 piece of paper.
EXCELLENT PROJECTS WILL GET EXTRA CREDIT ON THE TEST!
