This song was written by Bob Dylan. It was written in 1963, towards the end of the civil rights movement. Dylan recalled “writing the song as a deliberate attempt to create an anthem of change for the moment”. Odetta recorded Oh Freedom in 1956. This song was sang by Joan Baez before Martin Luther King Jr. made his “I Have Dream” speech. The line that was repeated through out the whole song was, “And before I'd be a slave I'll be buried in my grave and go home to my Lord and be free”. A R&B song by Sam Cooke written in 1963. It talks about how eventually one day a change will come when blacks and whites will be able to be together, and blacks don’t have to hide or get beaten. SAM COOKE LYRICS - A Change Is Gonna Come Written by Pete Seeger in the 1930’s. This song, “consists of a series of verses wherein a single line changes for each verse. This folk song style is typical probably because it makes the song easy to remember and even easier for a song leader to sing with a group of people”. Published in 1947 by Pete Seeger. This song became popular in the Civil Rights movement in 1959. Each verse talks about a different way, that they as a group will overcome all the problems.
