Remember to put the title of the article in quotation marks BEFORE the
borrowed information.
“Dictator vs Democracy”
Lead in, “Plato, following Greece’s victory in the Persian Wars, sought a return to stability and traditional
aristocratic values when he argued that the Philosopher King could best protect the simple minded populous
from the chaos of human nature” (paragraph 1, lines 5-11).
Lead in, “Both of these assertions were based on a series of connections made by the philosophers
regarding power and the way it can either be used to bring peace and prosperity or manipulated to bring
exploitation and ruin” (paragraph 1, lines17-22).
Lead in, “…Plato believed that man must be controlled and ruled or the result would be devastation.
This presence of a strong ruler would free ordinary people from the need to participate in government, while
also protecting the citizens of a nation from the mob rule sure to ensue if the uninformed and uneducated
classes were allowed to choose their rulers and laws (paragraph 2, lines 26-32).
