VIRGI NIA AMARNA’S ENVIRONMENT SETTING The type of environment for a figure painting setting that I like for a scene to includes: 1. A earthy setting 2. Lots of color 3. Flowers, trees . or plants for a background to the figure. My artistic discipline background consist of: 1. Associates Art Degrees in Ethnic Studies from Laney College 2. Associate of Art Degree in Merchandising and Visual Presentation (Graphic Designs) from Fashion Institute (FIDM) 3. Certification in Business Office Technology from Berkeley City College 4. Certification in Media and Communications, Graphic Arts Design, Computer Science, from Laney College 5. Completion of Certification in Construction, from Cypress Mandela 6. Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies/Integrated Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University Where are you going with this artistic background? Several things I would like to do with my Artistic abilities are: 1. To began a business in Basket Designing 2. To obtain a job in Animation Design 3. To educate others especially young men and people of color. 4. To achieve my Master’s Degree • My attach sketch “She Wonders” is illustrating a figure with flowers called next to it which shows how it brings light and live to the picture. My thought about painting is that she is a woman in a more glaring at fashion. The thought of a Naked person posing in a Mall. My Thought of this painting is that the elderly man has see many changes in his live. He is waiting to explore the Technical world. Virginia Amarna Critique of Shauna Foley Painting March 7, 2014 Shauna Foley Project 1 Painting of Nature vs. Technology to me has a figure of a Red Head Lady show many movements of contour lines while she is sitting at the base of the tree. The figure of the woman’s body has multiple colors of brown that has contrast blends of light brown mixed with red that seems to be consumed in deep thoughts. From the woman’s facial expression her thoughts could be that from appearances it is because she has a normal looking right arm and hand, while the left arm and hand that she has lending on the tree appears to be much larger and is depicted in white and pink colors which could be a product of her experience with technology. The discolorations of the white and pinkish left hand takes one’s eyes to the similar colors in the flowers petals embedded in the wheat color of yellowish brown grass that to me seems to be a meadow at the base of the tree bark. The multi color of the sky that has black, orange, and brown with red place on top gives it a dramatic feeling which also is in comparison of the frown on her soft light brown color face. Her left ear also shows multi numbers of stud earrings in white color to me might be indicating that with the rise in technology there is also might be a rise in the change of the culture with this generation. Although Shauna has good lines in the depth of her painting and movements one thing that I would do to add a change is to have more of a balance with the portion of the upper body rib cage and woman’s right arm. I also would want to bring some of the sky color to the meadow area. These two paintings were painted at different settings. My thoughts were to take the two and combine them for unity. • My thoughts on these two paintings shows how powerful these women are able to maintain in the Dark Dessert weather. Strength and Beauty. Virginia Amarna Critique of Patricia Miller Painting March 28, 2014 THE DARK SUN The multi-color of the reddish brown, orange color painting with the woman that seem to me looks like she has a body of young and youthful appearance while her facial structure of white paint I looked at it as being a mask. She is on the mountain with the background sky colors are of multi –colors of mixtures from dark blue, light blue, pinkish at the bottom show a strong and vibrations of purple. The earthy colors of orange, red, and blue demonstrates the mountains that flows with ease throughout the painting, showing much movement that leads one to the lady blending in nicely, but it is similar to that of the female at times is being lost in the mix of the mountains especially from her midsections of her body to her feet. My thoughts of this painting with the three women are we are in a hot Dessert. I feel that on the right side of her body with the hand and foot it gives an appearance of a somewhat not in the same portion in their sizes. Also, the two large circles of bluish purple and reddish in colors that I believe to be the interpretation of the Dark Sun are very radian but perhaps could be somewhat smaller in its sizes that are over power the woman. Yet the light blue and white scarf wrapped around the woman is well designed to m with lots of movement. Although there is a castle in the corner of gradient grays from dark light and misty atmosphere I think that perhaps it could be more defined. Patricia has included dragons in her paintings in dark black colors I think could also be more defined do to the fact they are lost in the painting or perhaps the dragon flying towards the castle could be a little larger in its size. Even though, I love the background colors of the sky I had a difficult time understanding what the streaks flowing throughout the painting representation of being rain. The white circle to me seems to get lost even being white in color. One thing I would change is how to define my subject matter which I believe to be the female in the painting by re-portioning her in size. VIRGINIA AMARNA’S COLLABORATION STATEMENT My collaborative experience with my Nature Madame Butterfly is like most group projects I have encounter as an African American Black Woman is being judged by my color and not by my content whether others see it that way or not this has been my perception. Yet! the reality of it all is that I have realized is that these individuals in settings are not the ones whom determine my grades and my goal is to participant my contribution to the task. My thoughts in doing this painting was a reminder to me of the hardships in which women experience no matter her culture. I RATHER NOT BE I rather not be around death .The world which we I Call planet earth is Full of death. I rather not be around death. The common mortals Who walks around like Zombies, the walking dead. I rather not be around death. Knowing I cannot be save. By this death for death Wants to take me with them. Am I to remain around death? Am I to sustain my present around death? When I know where life That shines and eases my mind. Will I escape being around death? Not understanding my connection .Between the spiritual world and earth .My purification of the mind. For, if death understood me It would not be. For death would shine. The first painting is of indicates Madame Butterfly in waiting for a Lover which is explain in the poem “I RATHER NOT BE”. The two Ladies show a disappointment. The man and child painting show compassion for the Madame Butterfly. And death smell would disappear. For you cannot save death, If it does not want to be, save It will drain you. Because death does not understand, save It will trick you and split you, It does not understand to save you. I rather not be around death. NATURE AND MADAME BUTTERFLY SKETCHES AND CRITIQUE Virginia Amarna Critique of Rie Belgrade Madame Butterfly April 11, 2014 Rie Belgrade painting of Madame Butterfly shows multi-colors of deep purples that has gradations of the deep blue sea that depicts the Ocean. The elongated brownish tone woman sitting in the boat that also has purple reddish tones with her reddish brown garment wrapped around her slender arms with back toward me continues to show loneliness or a woman in waiting. The point of the boat show that it is pointed in the position of the multi-color brown tone of the soldier’s face. His expression to me seems to say that although we have had some experience that our relationship will never be. One thing I would perhaps change is to not have the man look as if he is floating , I might would frame him or add some type of exterior to the background like buildings, or variations to the sky. Although Rie has put some form of the Cherry Tree, perhaps it could be more define by putting the bark of the tree to keep it from being lost by it light pink color. INDGENIOUS WATER RIGHTS • My thoughts about this is that I could not connect my painting to the title. It seems to be to take more time to paint than any other this semester. ADDITIONAL ART DESIGNS
