Geometry in the World Around Us Too often we “see” geometry only in the pages of a math book. This activity will require that you find examples of geometry in the world around you and connect those examples to definitions of geometry terms. You will discover the many geometric features of your school, your home, your neighborhood, the mall, the grocery store, and many other places. Assignment: 1. Prepare a notebook (I inch three ring binder) with a page for EACH of the geometric terms listed. 2. Each page must include the following a. The term and definition of the term at the top of the page b. A picture from a magazine, newspaper, internet, or camera with the geometric figure correctly identified and marked Please keep the following in mind while working on your notebook: The geometric figure in the picture should not be too small Your markings should be obvious and carefully made on each picture Your pictures should be real life examples and not just drawings of the geometric shape The geometric figure should be found within the picture, not just made by the borders Each picture should be glued onto the page Your notebook should have a cover page that includes the title of this assignment, your name, and some type of illustration intersecting lines perpendicular lines parallel lines right angle acute angle obtuse angle line line segment cylinder hexagon ray regular polygon isosceles triangle scalene triangle equilateral triangle right triangle acute triangle obtuse triangle cone octagon rectangle square rhombus parallelogram trapezoid sphere cube rectangular prism pentagon symmetric figure
