Reading Lesson Plan Week 8 October 14-18 2nd Grade Reading Mon. Opening/Anticipatory Set/Hook: Introduce an author using a teacher made anchor chart or power point. Read a story by your chosen author. Record attributes, noticing characters and interesting words, on a chart as you read different texts from the same author throughout the week. (SEE AUTHOR STUDY TEMPLATE IN COMMON DRIVE UNDER READING---NOT READING LESSONS) The teacher will model and write a reading response for each day (retell the beginning, middle and end). Materials Suggestions for author studies are: Tomie dePaola, Doreen Cronin, Mem Fox, Eve Bunting, Cynthia Rylant, Robert Munch, etc. Later in the week the teacher models comparing similarities and differences with the emphasis on a brief retell. Work Period: Students will retell the beginning, middle and end of the story to a partner. In the RRJ create a flow map of the beginning, middle and end of the story. Sentence stem: Today, I read __________________________ by ____________. In the beginning _________________________. Then, _______________. In the end ____________________________. Later in the week students will compare similarities or differences between the stories with emphasis on a brief retell- in RRJ- (see Author Study Template) Closing: Have a few students share their RRJ with the class. I will /Product/Task: I will respond to literature by describing similarities and differences in plots and settings of several works by the same author.
