10cp ESLR - THIS IS THE BASIC OVERVIEW OF WHAT YOUR ESLR OUTLINE WILL NEED TO LOOK LIKE: Outline I. Introduction A. (Problem/Issue)1. (Appeal)2. II. Body Paragraph 1 – First Argument Pro/Con A. The Moral Right 1. “One of the prized liberties for an individual is the ability to chose a life partner”(Hudson 16). Represents that people have the right to chose who they want to be with 2. “Administrations decision to stop defending marriage as being between one man and one woman indicates a break with its former policy”(Heiser). If a whole board is able to change their mind about the topic then the rest of America should be able to as well. III.Body Paragraph 2 A. Gays do not have the moral right 1. “The dictionary definition of the word “marry” includes: ‘to join as husband and wife according to law or custom’”(Hudson 26). The shows that even the dictionary states that marriage should be between and man and a woman. 2. “Anthropologist Helen Fisher in 1992 put it simple, ‘People wed primarily to reproduce’”(Blackhorn). Same-sex marriages will not be able to reproduce. IV. Body Paragraph 3- Rebuttal A. Gays have the moral right to get married 1. “Those who fear or dislike perceived aspects of gay life should particularly welcome gay acceptance into the martial fold”(Murray). The gays have an absolute moral right to marry whoever they want. V. Body Paragraph 4 A. Gay Marriage Does Not Go Against Religion 1.”But true religions should welcome gay marriage”(Murray). No matter what their religion is or says, one is supposed to love and support their brother or sisters. 2. “Many seem to believe that marriage is simply a private love between two people”(Blackhorn). Even thought ones religion may speak differently, it is the gays life and they should be able to marry without people looking down on them for doing so. VI. Body Paragraph 5. A. Gay Marriage Is a Threat To Religion 1. “A threat to not only families but to church and state as well”(Heiser). Churches practice what they are told through the bible so they are allowed to have their own opinions on what they believe in. 2. “Violates teachings of their church”(Heiser). It states in the bible that only mand and woman should be allowed to get married. Religious people stick to what they are taught. VII. Rebuttal A. Gay Marriage is not a threat to religion 1. “Gay marriage will never jeopardize straight marriage”(Murray). With all the worry about husbands cheating on wives and vise-versa, there will always be one group of people who would never do that. So religious people turning on gays just because of who they want to marry is outrageous. VIII. Body Paragraph 7. A. Gay Marriage Is Not A Threat To Society 1. “Some studies show that the children, particularly daughters, or gay and lesbian marriages adapt more accepting and open attitudes”(Meezan). More open minded people there are in the world, the more happy and generally nicer the world will be. 2. “One study reports that presxhool children of lesbian mothers tend to be less aggressive, bossy and domineering than children on heterosexual mothers”(Meezan). Less aggressiveness in the world will only mean good and no harm to the society. IX. Body Paragraph 8 A. Gay Marriage is a threat to society. 1. “Every child raised by gay or lesbian couples will be denied his/her birthright to both parents that made him/her”(Blackhorn). The child will not grow up with what every other child has. 2. “For a healthy development what every child needs more than anything is a mother and father who together made the child and love the child and love each other”(Blackhorn). X. Body Paragraph 9. Rebuttal A. Gay Marriage is not harm to the society. 1. “Many years ago, states refused to allow persons of different reaces to marry. This was discriminatory, wrong, and unconstitutional. The same applies for same-sex couples”(Hudson 25). XI. Conclusion (Restate thesis)1. (Call to action)2.
