Levine Middle College High School
July 30, 2014
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year at Levine Middle College High School. You are now part of establishing “A
Tradition of Excellence” during our first year together. We will have high expectations for student achievement,
safety/orderliness, character and integrity. Our Back to School Open House Drop-In will be on Thursday, August 7
from noon until 3:00. We encourage all students and parents to stop by, meet our staff and become familiar with
our campus. The first day of school for Levine students is Monday, August 11th. All students will report to their
homeroom at 11:20. A list of homeroom assignments will be posted when you arrive at school. A schedule for the
first week of school is enclosed. CPCC classes will begin on August 18th .
Class Schedules:
Your CMS and CPCC class schedules are included with this letter. Your schedule contains 1st and 2nd semester CMS
classes and CPCC first semester classes. You will register for 2nd semester CPCC classes in October. For schedule
change requests, please go to the following website to complete the request to Ms. Simmons by Friday, August 8.
http://counselorenews.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/SCHEDULE+CHANGE+REQUEST. For schedule questions, please
contact Ms. Simmons at sheri.simmons@cms.k12.nc.us
Accounts
You may go to http://www.cpcc.edu/ccr/resources/college/cpcclogin to set up your CPCC email, how to obtain a
parking pass and student ID. You must have your CPCC ID number to set up accounts. Your CPCC number is
located at the top of your CPCC class schedule, and accuplacer score test sheet. You will have plenty of time to
complete these tasks the first week of school.
Transportation
Students have three transportation options: 1) Drive to school, 2) Parents drop you off at school, and 3) CATS
transportation. CATS transportation will not begin until August 25th. We will send route information as soon as
we receive it. Please refer to the CATS website for information regarding routes.
http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/cats/Pages/default.aspx Students are responsible for keeping track of their
monthly CATS pass. CMS will not replace lost or stolen passes. If passes are lost or stolen see Ms. Stiles. If you are
driving yourself to school you must know your CPCC ID# in order to obtain a parking pass from the Levine Cashier
Office.
CPCC Textbooks
Do not purchase any CPCC textbooks until after your first class meeting. Sometimes the CPCC teacher will tell
you that you will not need the book or may tell you that you need to purchase a different book. To obtain books
for your classes you will need your CPCC ID and/or your class schedule. Present your ID or class schedule to the
bookstore attendant. Required books are the only materials that may be purchased with your ID or class schedule.
You must purchase school supplies and supplemental books with your own money. When you purchase (not rent)
your CPCC books, bring your book receipt to Ms. Stiles and check your name off the list in the LMCHS main office.
If you are taking a class that requires an access code, please write the code in multiple places for documentation. If
you lose the access code you will be responsible for purchasing another book. Please safeguard your CPCC ID as
this is your book “credit card”. The Levine Book Store hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and
Friday 7:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Parking Passes – Show your CPCC ID or class schedule to the Levine Cashier’s Office.
Student ID’s – Show your class schedule. Located at the Levine Registration Desk, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
2014-2015 School Calendars
You can find the 2014-2015 LMCHS calendar at the school website. Please review the calendar carefully because it
is significantly different from the CMS calendar.
Lunch Program
All CMS students will receive a postcard in early August with directions on how to apply for Free/Reduced Meals
for the 2014-2015 school year. You must complete your application on-line and submit it to CMS Child Nutrition.
Students who received Free/Reduced meals last year will continue to receive Free/Reduced meals until October
13th. A new application must be submitted and approved on-line prior to October13th in order to continue to
receive Free/Reduced meals. Students may also purchase a CMS lunch at LMCHS. Lunch price is $2.50 and $.60 for
milk and money must be deposited with Pay Pam online. If you are interested in receiving a CMS lunch each day,
please email Ms. Stiles the first week of school. CMS will deliver lunch to Levine from Butler High School. Students
may also bring their lunch to school or purchase lunch at Levine.
Student Dress Code
LMCHS takes pride in the way our students and staff dress for school. Students are expected to cover themselves
properly and are required to dress modestly. Low/revealing necklines and short skirts/shorts are unacceptable.
Inappropriate dress will be determined by the school staff. Pants will be worn at the appropriate waist level.
Parents will be called if clothing is deemed inappropriate for school. The best rule for dress is, “If in doubt, don’t
wear it”. Hats will not be worn in the building.
Tardies/Absences
Students are expected to arrive to all classes (CPCC and LMCHS) prepared and on time each day. If a student is
absent, he/she is required to provide a written note to Ms. Stiles. Students are required to provide a parent letter
with a phone number for early dismissal from school. LMCHS will follow the CMS attendance policy.
Use of Cell Phones
According to the CMS Rights and Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook, cell phones are
allowed on campus; however, if cell phones are seen or heard in classrooms, they will be taken. For a first
violation, the cell phone will be taken and returned to the student at the end of the day if they are compliant
and respectful. Parents will be contacted on the second violation.
Behavior Guidelines
Students/Parents can find a copy of the CMS Rights and Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook at
the CMS website. LMCHS students will comply with the CMS and CPCC behavior expectations. Violations of the
Code of Conduct can result in removal from LMCHS and a return to their home school.
Communication
You will receive a “Friday Folder” message by phone and by email every Friday. This “Friday Folder” is our way of
keeping you informed of upcoming events and all of the exciting things happening at LMCHS. To receive these
messages we must have accurate phone numbers and email addresses. We require all of our students to check
their CPCC and LMCHS email messages at least once a day.
Parents, please let me know if you are interested in serving on the Levine School Leadership Team. We meet
quarterly for one hour to discuss School Improvement and receive input from our parents regarding our school.
On behalf of the staff at Levine Middle College High School, we wish for each of you a wonderful school year. We
look forward to seeing you at 11:20 on Monday, August 11th for the first day of school.
Sincerely,
Joey Burch, Principal
