Using Mallard for Spanish
Arts & Sciences Center for
Instructional Technologies
Welcome to Mallard! Mallard is a
web-based learning tool where you
will find many of your course
activities.
Mallard will be used by all sections of
SPAN 102 and SPAN 106.
Mallard is like a workbook that gives
you immediate feedback on completed
exercises.
Activities in Mallard correspond to activities
in Puntos de Partida and Puntos en Breve.
You can do Mallard work in the
Language Lab (Cabell 221), on any
UVA computer, or on your own
computer.
If you use a UVA computer outside of
the Language Lab, bring your own
headphones.
If you do Mallard work on your own
computer, you need to make sure your
computer is ready. Your computer will
need Mozilla Firefox, Quicktime and
RealPlayer. These can be downloaded
for free at UVA’s Information Technology
and Communication webpage:
www.itc.virginia.edu.
If you are working at an off-grounds
computer, make sure you have a proxy
server account so that the University
servers will recognize you as belonging to
the University community. You can set
yourself up by going to
www.itc.virginia.edu.
Finally, make sure that you have a
copy of the Mallard Manual. This is
available on the toolkit page for your
class.
Now you’re ready to use Mallard!
Now we will walk you through
how to login, access your
Mallard Lessons and submit
them for grading!
