Employment For F-1
and J-1Students
Work must be performed on the
school's premises
On-Campus Employment Includes any work for which student receives
compensation directly from Temple University. Student may work at any
Temple campus:

1) Main Campus

2) Ambler Campus

3) Health Science Center

4) Center City Campus

5) Fort Washington Campus

6) Harrisburg Campus
No Work Study Positions
 Student
should not apply for any positions
that indicate a desire for a student with
"work-study“ as Work Study is federally
funded financial aid for which international
students are not eligible.
Employers On-Campus
Students in F-1 and J-1 Status may engage in employment with
commercial firms which provide services for students on campus (any
business located in Temple’s property).
Example: bookstore, cafeteria, food venders, Seven-Eleven, Wendy’s.


Employers On-Campus

Also includes work at an off-campus location which
is educationally affiliated with Temple University.

The work must be an integral part of the student’s
program and the educational affiliation is
associated with the academic department's
established curriculum or is related to a graduate
level research project.
On-Campus Employment

No authorization required by ISSS or USCIS

Student can start on-campus employment any time as long as s/he is
registered full-course study and maintaining F-1/J-1 status.

Student can work up to 20 hours a week during spring and fall
semester.

Student can work full-time during spring break, summer sessions, and
winter break.

Student must stop on-campus employment when s/he completes
program of study. RA/TA also has to be stopped.
On-Campus Employment

Student can log on to Tuportal and look for a list of student jobs

Many offices post employment opportunity on their own web site

Student must follow hiring instructions provided by Human Resources
Department

Once student has an employer, s/he can apply for a social security
number www.temple.edu/isss/general/ssn.html

Hiring Department/Supervisor must complete the SSN letter template
and print it out on Departmental letterhead. Student then brings the letter
to ISSS for signature during walk-in hours [M-F 1:30 PM to 4PM]
