SAT Vocabulary
In class we will record an original sentence for each word. In addition, you may record the sentence(s) where each
word is used in Fahrenheit 451 and submit that sheet for a bonus on Friday’s assessment.
1. Cadence (n. ) – rhythmic flow of a sequence of sounds
2. Intuitively (adv. ) – known or perceived by intuition or instinctive feeling
3. Insidious (adj. ) – treacherous; harmful but enticing or seductive
4. Contemptible (adj. ) – arousing or deserving of one’s loathing and disgust
5. Ruinous (adj. ) – causing or tending to cause ruin or destruction
6. Rebut (v.) – to claim or to prove that evidence or an accusation are false
7. Parried (v. past tense…) – to ward off, especially with a countermove
