Alexander West, a son of Edmond and Mary West, was born August 11, 1760 and
died in Lewis County VA (WV) June 20, 1834. He first married Malina Hughes. He
married Mary Straley in 1796. Mary, a daughter of Christian and Christina
(Lantz) Straeley, was born in 1769 and died in 1857.
Alexander enlisted in Capt. James Booths company of Rangers in May 1777.
Captain Boothwas killed by Indians in June 1778 and none of his company ever
received official discharges. Alexander enlisted in Captain George Jackson's
company of Rangers in 1781. He marched to Fort Pitt and served under General
George Rogers Clark. In his 1832 pension application, Alexander stated that
his discharge papers were destroyed by the Indians who killed his family
members in 1787.

renegade Leonard Schoolcraft and two Indian companions December 5,
1787.
Edmond married Catherine Ellsworth April 11, 1791. Catherine was
a daughter of Moses Ellsworth.

Thomas enlisted in the Union Army, Co.G 9th W.Va. Volunteer Infantry at
Spencer, Roane County VA (WV) September 30, 1861. He married Nancy Jane Haley
at Spencer January 7, 1862. Nancy, a daughter of Samuel and Virginia Haley,
was born January 22, 1842 and died June 8, 1904.
Thomas returned from a patrol to Gauley Bridge sick in August 1862. He was
discharged in the fall of 1862 as unfit for duty.
