Awareness and Access
Social Media Campaign
Description:
The Awareness and Access Campaign is a movement to change how the UB community thinks
about disability and works towards creating a more universally designed and inclusive
environment.
Students in UBE 496, a 3 credit academic class, will post and tweet as part of their class
requirements.
How we will go about creating change: Using the social media websites of Facebook and Twitter
we will reach out to UB students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community by posting and
tweeting pictures, links and ideas of how to create a more inclusive environment. Focus is on
positive change.

Creating a Campus Awareness and
Access Campaign
Decide on social media to use based on your school and
accessibility.
Integrate into class or group goals and incentives.
Organize so there is new information every day or so.
Photos and videos on Facebook were most popular.
Twitter not as effective during spring 2014, considering integrating
more with Facebook for accessibility.
Student Suggestions for 2014-2015
Display print media campaign inside student union and around campuses instead on the
stampede buses. For example, put table tents on tables in all dining places, small word games,
puzzles and facts on library and classroom desks, banners in student union, digital posters on
monitors.
Create ADA 25th anniversary celebration focus for UB Accessible Facebook and twitter.; include
other student groups. Create ADA 25th anniversary calendar of events across campus.
Get UB students involved in the ratification of the Convention on Rights for Persons with
Disabilities (CRPD) through Facebook and Twitter.
Be clear so students know what to post.
Consider posting concerns about things that people do not think are accessible on campus.
Consider a Tumblr blog.
