Comprehension Strategy: Ask and
Answer Questions
-When you read expository text, you may come across
new concepts, detailed descriptions, and connections
between idea. Asking and answering questions about
key details in expository text can help you understand
them.

Comprehension Skill: Text Structure: Problem
and Solution
-The way the author organizes ideas in a text is called text
structure. Problem and solution is one if the types of structure.
-To identify the problem, you must look for details or statements
in the text that tell about something that need to be fixed,
improved, or resolved.
-To find the solution, you look for text evidence that explains how
the problem was fixed, improved, or resolved.
-This helps us understand the author's purpose for writing.
-For extra practice, refer to Practice Workbook pages 53-55.

Genre: Expository Text
- The key characteristics of expository text include:
 presents information and factual details
about a topic.
 The purpose is to inform or explain.
 It provides facts about people, ideas, or
events (historical or current).
 It may include text features such as:
headings, photographs, captions,
diagrams, maps, and timelines.
 Text features may or may no provide
information for the text.

Latin Roots
The root is the basic part of the word that gives the
word meaning. Prefixes and suffixes are word
parts that are added at the beginning or end of a
root and that change the word's meaning. Latin
Roots often combine with other word parts added
to the beginning or end of the word to form the
meaning of the whole work.
- Struct means build
-Nav means ship
-port means carry
