W Africana Studies Department To: Graduating Seniors in Africana Studies From: Josephine Wright, Chair Dept. Africana Studies Ref.: Senior Exit Survey 2013-14 Date: August 2013 Dear Seniors: Congratulations on reaching the fourth year and the culminating Senior I.S. Theses. The Department of Africana Studies has developed a set of educational goals for our majors as part of its on-going assessment. To assist the department in monitoring the extent to which these goals have been reached, Africana Studies is requiring all seniors to complete the appended Exit Survey and bring it with them in a sealed envelope to their scheduled Senior I.S. Orals in Spring 2013. The survey should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Senior I.S. advisers will not be submit final grades for the I.S. Project without your submission of the Senior Exit Survey. We thank you in advance for complying with this requirement. cc.: Profs. What would you identify as the major strengths of The College of Wooster's Africana Studies curriculum? Its broad array of subject matter, and flexibility with other departments. 7 16. What would you identify as the major weaknesses of The College of Wooster's Africana Studies curriculum? I feel as if we focus mostly on African American issues, and I feel like it should be mandatory to have a broad array of knowledge on multiple parts of the Diaspora. Junior IS was extraordinarily stressful. It was troubling that I didn’t start writing it until the middle of the year. It was helpful that I learned how to research in the class, but my writing practice was not as vigorous. 17. What suggestions would you make to strengthen The College of Wooster's Africana Studies Department? Make attendance to lectures mandatory. Make taking classes on multiple aspects of the Diaspora Mandatory. Have an Africana Theory and Criticism class before Junior IS. Part III: Post-Graduation Plans 18. Has your experience in Africana Studies helped you plan for graduate school or a post-graduation career? Yes If NO, do you plan to apply to a graduate school/program eventually? N/A 8 19. Have you requested advice form, or conferred with, any member of the Africana Studies Department regarding your immediate plans after graduation? Yes
