Sub: About discrepancies in questions of CGl 2012
Sir, I humbly want to bring it to your notice that there are some discrepancies in the
question papers and the answer keys as well. My name is Bhanu Rawat(Category- UR)My ssc
cgl level tier 1 Roll No. is 2201084728 and ticket No. is 2109558.
My test form No. for English Language and Comprehension Paper-II is 032PJ2 and
for Quantitative abilities paper-I my test form no. is 231NM3.
Discrepancies:IN Paper-II Test form No. 032PJ2
according to my knowledge following discrepancies are thereQuestion no. 100 (sentence improvement ) Socrates had many disciples and the most great
of them was Plato.
(a) the greater
(b) the greatest
(c) greatest
(d) No improvement
According to SSC keys answer is b , now if we put b as answer then the sentence will
become as follows, “ Socrates had many disciples and the the greatest of them was Plato”. I
think this answer is wrong as two successive ‘the’ will make the sentence wrong, because in
question ‘the’ is not underlined only ‘most great’ is underlined ,So the correct answer will
be option (C). Now put c in answer and the sentence will become, “Socrates had many
disciples and the greatest of them was Plato” and I think this answer is right
Question no. 118 (sentence improvement) There is no place in the bus, it is already overcrowded.
(a) berth
(b) vacancy
(c) room
(d) No improvement
According to SSC keys the answer is (c) . now if we put c as answer then the sentence will
become, “There is room in the bus, it is already over-crowded.” I think this is wrong
because the complete meaning of the sentence has changed now, this is because in
question both ‘no’ and ‘place’ are underlined now if we put any option other then (d) then
no will also be removed from the sentence . Hence, (d) i.e. no improvement is the most
appropriate answer to this question.
Question no. 135 (direct/indirect) She said, “When I was a child I used to be afraid of
ghosts.”
In this question two options are same that are (c) and (d). According to SSC keys D is right
answer , but as the (c) and (d) options are same therefore (c) is also right . therefore please
also give marks to those who have opted (c) as correct because both (c) and (d) options
are same.
Question no.139.(direct/indirect),”Sir I shall be obliged to you if you grant me three days’
leave. I have to go to my village to see my father.”
Sir in this questions according to me answer should be option (B) please have a look in this
queation as SSC answer is also right but I don’t see any reason for my answer to be wrong
Question no. 85 (active/passive)Can we solve this problem?
(A) Can this problem be solved?
(B) can this problem be solved by us?
(C) Can this problem solved?
(D) Can this problem not be solved
Sir according to SSC keys option A is right ,but Option B is more appropriate as it is following
the basics of active to passive transformation
Question no 86. Option A is more appropriate as answer then option c which is given as
answer by ssc keys
IN Paper-I Test form No. 231NM3
Question no. 17. A fan in a shop is offered at a discount of 10 %. It is sold during clearance
sale at 6% discount over the already discounted price at Rs. 846. The original marked price
of the fan is.(in this question all the options given as answer are wrong)
(A) Rs 900
(B) Rs 946
(c) Rs 850
(d) Rs 896
Solution:- Let marked price be = Rs M
Discount offered by shop= 10%
So, discounted price = M – (10/100)*M = 9M/10
During clearance sale further discount offered on discounted price is = 6%
Therefore, selling price = {(9M/10) - (6/100)*9M/10} = 846M/1000
According to the question selling price is = Rs 846
therefore, 846M/1000 = 846
it gives value of M = (846/846)*1000
hence, M= Rs 1000
now 1000 is not in answer and ssc have given (A) as answer i.e. 900 which cant be.
I had marked optoin (B) i.e. 946 as answer because it was nearest to the actual answer
1000.
Question no. 77. Suppose triangle ABC is a right angled triangle where angle A= 90 degree
and AD perpendicular on BC. If triangle ABC = 40 cm^2 , triangle ACD= 10 cm^2 and AC= 9
cm then length of BC is . (options are wrong)
(A) 12cm
(B) 8 cm
(C) 4 cm
(D) 6 cm
solution:-this question is wrong or all answers are wrong because in question AC is 9 cm and
BC is asked , as BC is hypotenuse because angle A is 90 degree and BC is the side opposite to
right angle therefore is a hypotenuse . NOW hypotenuse cannot be smaller than any other
side of the tiangle , while in the answer all options are less than 9 cm (side AC) therefore
cannot be answer… only option (A) 12 cm can be the answer if options are correct . But
according to ssc keys ans is (D) 6 cm which is wrong .
