Implementation of UGC funded carrier oriented programmes by the departments of Physics, Commerce and Chemistry, UGC funded Coaching for Entry into Government Services, Research Projects, Activities of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Research Guidance Cell, Library Advisory Committee and Vellikallam are commendable. Computer Literacy campaign for noncomputer students was successfully launched by IQAC and Department of Computer Science. Short term value added courses are offered by Department of English (both Regular and Self financed) and Computer Science. Progress is evident in the pass percentage of the out gone batch. Updating subject knowledge by the teachers and students, publishing research articles, students’ participation in outdoor curricular activities are the remarkable features of the report. Earlier, a tableau contest was also conducted on the theme “My Role Model”. Ensuring Harmony in the Campus : 22 PIONEER KUMARASWAMY COLLEGE, NAGERCOIL-3 Anti-eve teasing committee takes initiatives to ensure a conducive environment in the campus. It emphasized Gender Justice and educated girls how to face the problem, if it arises. Installation of a complaint Box, publicizing Help line number and periodic orientation, help for the prevalence of Harmony in the campus. Besides, Anti- Ragging Committee also helps for the maintenance of Harmony. Freshers’ Day celebration and cultural feast help to build a rapport between the Seniors and the Juniors. Medical College, Asaripallam - Red Ribbon Club Red Ribbon Club Career Guidance and Counselling : Career Guidance and Counselling was arranged by the Career Guidance Cell. The Cell collaborated with Library and IQAC. Some activities held during the academic year were, Orientation for Appearing for TNPSC Examinations (9-12-2014 to 11-12-2014) Orientation for Appearing for UGC NET Examinations (22-12-2014) Orientation for the Faculty Members (8-1-2015) Orientation on “Career Opportunities” (10-4-2015) Placement Cell : Counselling in career opportunities elevated the career skills of the students. It helped the students to attend training programme conducted by the Tata Consultancy Services. 42 Final year students attended the training lasted from (8-10-2014 to 19-12-2014). Fifteen of them were selected in the Technical Interview held (30-12-2014). And they had received the offer letters from the TCS. Selected Students include ten from English Literature, Three from Mathematics and Two from Commerce C.A. Vellikallam Vellikallam an unique forum functioning under the aegis of the Department of Tamil strives to identify and nourish the talents of the students. During this year also, VelliKallam arranged various competitions and promoted students’ skills. In commemoration of the birth anniversary of Ramalinga Vallalar, essay and elocution contests were conducted on 8-9-2014 and the theme were National Integration and Harmonious Existence . A General Quiz contest was held on 25-9-2014. During the Pongal 24 PIONEER KUMARASWAMY COLLEGE, NAGERCOIL-3 Day Celebrations, Competitions on Indigenous values were conducted on 12-1-2015. A Music competition was conducted on 4-2-2015 . Vellikallam trained the oratorical skills of the students and it helped them to attend a talent drive conducted by a Tamil Media Channel, named, “Tamizhan” Two students G. Nadhiya (III B. Sc Mathematics) & R . Meenakshi (III B.A English, SF) were selected to participate in a Talk Show anchored by the “Tamizhan” media channel . And this programme was telecast (17-4-2015) . Civic Responsibility The Institution imparts the sense of Civic Responsibility among the students through various activities. Orientation and awareness campaign were arranged by the NSS, Youth Red Cross Society and Red Ribbon Club. Both Teachers and students had attended orientation programmes organized by other Institutions and Forums. National Service Scheme : During this year, Orientation for Freshes was arranged on 6-1-2015. Three Units of NSS (87,88&89) had a focus on the Theme “Clean Campus” Volunteers had many work camps in the college campus as well as other campus like E.B. Office, Parvathipuram. The Volunteers helped for arranging Independence Day and Republic Day Celebration. A film show on “Science Technology” was screened for the students (13.8.2014). A Fabric painting Competition entitled “Conservation of Nature” was conducted (9-10-2012). NSS Programme officers and volunteers attended various training programmes organized by other Institutions. 25 PIONEER KUMARASWAMY COLLEGE, NAGERCOIL-3 Youth Red Cross Society : Youth Red Cross Society Organised blood group identification camp (28.7.2014) and an awareness campaign (25.9.2014) to donate blood and save life. Students had participated and won prizes in the competitions organized on various occasions like Geneva Convention Day (31.7.2014), Youth Day (13.2.2015) and World Book Reading Day (23.2.2015) conducted by Indian Red Cross Society of regions in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli.
