Grace Lutheran Church Wednesday, December 16, 2015 WELCOME Welcome in Jesus’ name. We thank God for your presence among us and pray God’s blessing be upon your hearing of His Word. We know in this day and age you have many choices to choose from when it comes to Worship, Fellowship, and Bible study. We also know that people do not join churches like they join civil organizations, but rather, through Baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit people are brought into the Kingdom of God and are declared His children to live and serve under Him. Here at Grace Lutheran Church we seek to honor Jesus Christ through Worship, Fellowship, Prayer, and Bible Study which enriches, engages, and provides many opportunities for service of love within and without our community. We believe in the power of prayer and welcome your prayer requests on behalf of yourself or someone you know. Just fill out the Prayer Card located in the pew in front of you and place it in the offering plate. We will add your prayer request to our daily prayers. If you are looking for a church home, we would invite you to prayerfully consider Grace Lutheran. We welcome you to come and join us Sunday mornings from 9:0010:00 a.m. as we learn more about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. SHARING THE PEACE . LO! HE COMES WITH CLOUDS DESCENDING Lo! C Amen Sing, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” “The sorrows for the appointed feasts I will remove from you; they are a burden and a reproach to you. At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you; I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the Lord. R This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. R This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. P The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the seven chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord John’s disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them, he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?” When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?’” At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.” After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: “‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry Announces that the Lord is nigh; Awake and hearken, for he brings Glad tidings of the King of kings! Then cleansed be ev'ry life from sin; Make straight the way for God within, And let us all our heats prepare For Christ to come and enter there. We hail Thee as our Savior, Lord, Our refuge and our great reward; Without Thy grace we waste away Like flow'rs that wither and decay. Lay on the sick Thy healing hand And make the fallen strong to stand; Show us the glory of Thy face Till beauty springs in ev'ry place. All praise, eternal Son, to Thee Whose advent sets Thy people free, Whom with the Father we adore And Holy Spirit evermore.” GO AND TELL! I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen.
