Warm Up Skills Rubric
Skills
Head rolls: control of head circles, do not
hyperextend to the back
Shoulder and Arm circles: control of
shoulder and arm circles, circling through full
extension, melting into a lunge
Leg circles: leg straight, circle fully extended,
plié when stepping
Parallel Plié: knees track over the toes, feet are
parallel
Down, Over, Up/Up, Over, Down: knees
track over the toes, feet pushed fully into a forced
arch with knees bent, rise up to rèlevé with straight
legs
First Position Plié: knees track over the toes,
feet are in first position
Second Position Plié: knees track over the
toes, feet are in turned out second position
Rag Doll: spine including the head are released
and loose, flowing through full range of motion
Parallel Tendus: knee straight, foot brushing
the floor, return to parallel
Knee Circles: knee bent, circle through full
range of hip motion
Turn In/Turn Out: using the hip - knee turns
in, turns out, and then lower leg extends straight
without raising the hip
Leg Swings: leg swings straight or in attitude
back and forth through full range of motion
Turned Out Tendu Front: knee straight, foot
brushing the floor, heel leading, tendu directly to
the front, return to first position
Turned Out Tendu Side: knee straight, foot
brushing the floor, toes leading, tendu to the front
corner, return to first position
Roll Back: right leg tucks under the body, roll
back lifting hips off of the floor – legs in a “P” – roll
back up to sitting
Straight Leg Stretch: legs are straight,
actively reaching towards the toes (pointed and
flexed)
Butterfly Stretch: feet in the butterfly

Straddle Stretch: legs straight in a straddle,
reaching right and left the arm stays inside the
legs, hips are in a neutral position (tail bone pointing
to the floor)
Hip Stretch: leg is turned out, supporting leg is
pulled into the chest
Floor Swings: leg swings across the body and
back to center – straight leg opens out to side
making a full half circle
Criss Cross: slowly lower the legs, legs held 1-2
inches above the floor, control in the legs and the
abs
Curl and Reach: keeping head and shoulders
held off of the floor, legs and arms curl into the
center of the body and then extend out above and
below the center
Knee Grabs: keeping head and shoulders held off
of the floor, grab one knee, extend the other leg
out straight not letting it touch the floor
Scissors: keeping head and shoulders held off of
the floor, extend one leg straight above and one leg
straight out not letting it touch the floor
Straight Crunches: head and shoulders lifted
off of the floor and lowered to the floor in a
controlled manner
Right Crunches: head and shoulders lifted off
of the floor and lowered to the floor in a controlled
manner, left elbow touches the right knee
Left Crunches: head and shoulders lifted off of
the floor and lowered to the floor in a controlled
manner, right elbow touches the left knee
Downward Dog: hips are lifted, back straight,
chest pushing towards the thighs
Dance Push Ups: elbows hugging the sides and
pointing straight back, arms doing the work, lower
only half way
X: lift right arm and left leg directly off of the
floor keeping them straight – switch
Child’s Pose: hips to heels, arms extended out in
front, chest to your knees
Memorization and flow: able to complete the
warm up with out watching others, movements flow
and are not choppy, filling all of the time allotted
