St. Johnsbury Academy Youth Job Corps 2015 Working Agreement This agreement establishes a mutual understanding between St. Johnsbury Academy and the participating student regarding aspects of acceptance into the Youth Job Corps. The program goals and purpose are to provide a safe and nurturing environment where incoming freshman learn to prosper in high school and beyond. The student participant will have a better understanding of the importance education has on their future and their family’s future. St. Johnsbury Academy’s core values of character, inquiry and community will all be fostered during this experience. Team building, friendship making and self-esteem are all by products of this successful program. St. Johnsbury Academy and _________________________, understand and agree (Student Participant Name) to the following: Terms & Conditions: Student must be an incoming 9th grader from the either the Cornerstone School, Good Shepherd Catholic School or the St. Johnsbury School; and Student must be a resident of the town of St. Johnsbury. St. Johnsbury Academy agrees to: Provide a three (3) week employment experience to the participating student, named above, in a Youth Job Corps environment: o The experience will take place from July 6-24, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily; o Students will participate in both classroom and community service activities, as well as sales and marketing of their product; and o There will also be a mandatory daily fitness component. Provide a uniform shirt for student participant; Compensate the participating student, named above, through a training stipend, weekly in the amount of $100; Deposit $20 of the participating students’ training stipend into an established savings account; Conduct weekly performance appraisals of participating student, named above, that will be maintained in the individual’s human resource folder. Appraisals will be based on: o Time management skills – showing up to work on time, shift readiness; o Communication skills – written/verbal with both team and program supervisors; o Decision making – set goals, generate alternatives, evaluates; o Problem solving – recognizes problems and works as a team to remedy; and o Goal setting – daily, weekly and educationally. Conduct a Naviance Assessment of the participating student, named above, for purposes of exploring educational and career goals; and Ensure that the participating student, named above, will have gained: o Experience working within a team; o Time management skills; o Communication skills; o Financial management – budgeting skills; o Leadership skills; o Sales/marketing skills; and o Self-reliance. Student Participant agrees to: Establish a savings account in student participant name; Provide savings account information to Program Coordinator so earnings can be direct deposited into student participant’s account; A $100 per week training stipend, with $20 of those monies being direct deposited into an established savings account; The dates of the employment experience of July 6-24, 2015; Show up to work each day, on time and in uniform; Contact the Program Coordinator, before the start of their scheduled day, to notify of an absence or inability to participate that day; and Have a positive attitude towards this experience. Termination: Failure to comply with the signed agreement will result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the program.
