LESTER B. PEARSON HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY & CITIZENSHIP SECONDARY 4 MISS ANANIA, ROOM 3322 2015-2016 Course Description This course is an overview of Quebec and Canadian history. It is designed to give students a better understanding of where our society came from and where we might be going. Furthermore, this course will prepare students to become better citizens by giving them an overview of the functioning of the Quebec and Canadian political and social structures. To achieve this goal, the course will be divided into four themes over three terms. Course content: The following are the themes to be covered this year: 1. 2. 3. 4. Population & Settlement Economy Culture & Currents of Thought Power & Countervailing Powers Roles, Rules, and Requirements The student’s role consists of: Arriving to class on time Bringing all required materials Respecting other students, and the teacher Respecting the classroom environment Following the teacher’s instructions Using technology as required and instructed Completing all homework when it is assigned Failure to comply with any of these guidelines will result in disciplinary action: i. Verbal warning ii. Contacting the parents\guardian iii. After school detention Course Materials: 1 small binder with 4 dividers (for handouts) 1 copybook (approx. 120 pages) Loose leaf Pens (blue or black, and red), pencils 2 highlighters A box of tissues Workbook: Preparation for the Ministerial Examination Panoramas (Vol. 1 & 2) Communication Parents and guardians are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s student life. Quizzes and tests will regularly be sent home to be signed by a parent or guardian. Any communication with parents may be done through notes in the student agenda, by email, or by telephone. This year, I will be integrating new forms of communication and technology into the classroom. Certain applications will be introduced to facilitate communication between the teacher and the students and their parents.
