without any punctuation



bad effects
Comma splices- two complete sentences joined by
only a comma instead of a comma and one of the
following words: and, but, for, nor, or, so, yet


Adding A Semi-Colon to
Correct Run-Ons
 Join
the two independent clauses into
one sentence by adding a semicolon
 Only use a semicolon when the two
independent clauses express closely
related ideas that make sense in a single
combine sentence.
Add A Comma &
Coordinating Conjunction
 FANBOYS-
for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
 Note: the comma goes before, not
after, the coordinating conjunctions.
 Note: coordinating conjunctions need
to connect two independent clauses.
They are not used to join a dependent
to an independent clause.
Add A Dependent Word
 Dependent
words are either a
subordinating conjunction or relative
pronoun.
 Use when the clause the dependent
word begins is less important than or
explains the other clause.
