Responses – The presence of active instructors (vs. the ‘on paper’ instructors that many states require but which students never use) Student support and career services (ensuring students are making progress in the course, assistance with job search) Equips successful student for entry level employment in the field From an instructional perspective is that a CTP is a curriculum designed to give people the knowledge to go get a job. Most of our products are stand-alone pieces that give an experienced professional their CE. Curriculum implies that there is not only certain content that needs to be included but also a clear instructional path to spiral the content into a big picture that leads to a new career. One challenge that this is more of a Business to Customer sale than a Business to Business. It’s high touch (both inside and outside of the actual online curriculum) and presumes the need to provide support and guidance. A student completes over a period of several months in order to take a certifying exam (in some cases), not just fulfill a 2-hour CE or PL credit requirement. Also, the course work that students do within the program is different than the CE/PL credit courses. They must spend a certain number of hours offline doing reading, often submitting projects to instructors for review, etc. They are a combination of online/offline with a specific number of hours assigned to each component. Enrolling in a Career Training Program is embarking on a new career path, not sustaining a current one. It seems to me that all of the terminology associated with the two are different: enroll, career, training program, certification….vs.. continuing education, course, credit, fulfill a requirement, etc. Career Training Programs open a new door for a student and CE courses keep the door open. So, I think categories that fall within the new career path domain could be considered as long as the additional components (instructors, projects, offline work, etc.) are part of the offering. 3 CTP vs.. It will give the learner knowledge about the field or career they would like to explore without requiring the learner to complete a practicum. The new programs offered by 360training in our Allied Health Higher Ed library are all “theory based”. Learners are looking for content knowledge that will give them the edge over the competition. Earning a certificate of completion from 360training will give the student that edge. 6 Patient Care Technician (CPCT) The Certified Patient Care Technician Typical Duties Include Provide basic patient care including bathing, feeding, toileting and ambulating patients Acquire and distribute patient care supplies Change bed linens and process dirty linens properly Perform safety checks to keep patient rooms clean and clutter – free Maintain clear paths in hallways clear and return equipment that is no longer in use Obtain EKG readings Perform phlebotomy procedures Certification Information Assists doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing direct patient care in a variety of healthcare environments. Nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants are frequently active, visiting patients and residents and helping move, reposition, or lift them. To work as a Patient Care Technician you are not required to be certified but most employers look for candidates with some sort of documentation of education (like a certificate of completion and a certification) Average Salary earning $24,010 per year $11.54 per hour 7 Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Is an unlicensed, multi-skilled healthcare practitioner who is competent in both clinical and administrative procedures. Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice. Through on-the-job training, a physician or another medical assistant in the office may teach the new assistant medical terminology, the names of the instruments, how to do daily tasks, how to interact with patients, and other tasks that help keep the office running smoothly. They use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries, and to maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories. Typical Duties Include: Audit patient records for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements Abstract clinical information for inclusion in reports such as quality improvement studies Perform basic coding to submit claims for reimbursement from insurers Process Release of Information (ROI) requests for medical records Review patient records to ensure they are complete Collect patient demographic and insurance information Certification Information Most employers prefer to hire medical records and health information technicians who have professional certification. A medical records and health information technician can get certification from several organizations. Some organizations base certification on passing an exam. Patients can be any age but are not monitored beyond an office visit or if in a hospital 3 days Day surgery patients and requirements are a good an example of this type of working environment 10 Certification Information The National Healthcareer Association was established in 1989 to implement national competency standards in several fields within allied healthcare. The NHA strives to develop and administer high stakes certifications that serve as a resource for allied health professionals and the healthcare industry. The NHA Certification Board is the autonomous governing board that has the responsibility for overseeing all allied health certification programs with the exception of the Certified Pharmacy Technician examination program (ExCPT), which is governed by a separate board. The NHA Certification Board sets policy over essential certification activities.
