Manatee School of Arts Mission Statement

“Meeting the needs of all children through infusing the arts and teaching to multiple intelligences.”

Welcome to Mrs. Stahl’s Zoology class!!!!!! Zoology is the study of animals. I am so excited to continue on our journey of understanding both land and marine animals. The goal is to have tons of fun learning about all sorts of animals, from microscopic zooplankton to some of the largest mammals on the planet. We will be focusing on how each species is studied functionally, structurally, evolutionarily, and ecologically, as well as their importance to

the environment in which they live.

Projects-

There will be a variety of projects from research papers, research proposals,

PowerPoint presentations, brochures, dioramas, models, collages, timelines, etc. Projects are a great hands-on approach to learning and it has been my experience that the students really do enjoy completing them. Projects are subject to change by the teacher.

Homework and Class participation-

 You are expected to follow ALL classroom instructions set by the teacher and participate in each and every class. Heads down and sleeping is not tolerated. Stay off your cell phones! If I see you on it I

WILL TAKE IT and you will have to obtain it from Student Services!!!

 When homework is assigned you are to complete it by the due date, it is your responsibility. HOMEWORK IS DUE AT THE DOOR OR IS

CONSIDERED LATE AND YOU WILL RECEIVE A 10 % PENALTY.

 Extra credit is ALWAYS available, however ALL assignments have to be turned in first! See my website to obtain extra credit assignments.

Extra credit will not be accepted the last week of the marking period.

Make-ups / Absences-

If you are absent from school you will have the same amount of time missed to make up the work. For example if Susie has class MWF and misses Monday and returns to school Wednesday, then she will have to turn the missing work in on Friday. After Friday the student will receive a 10% penalty per class the work is absent. If there is a real issue please contact me via email at astahl@msfta.org

.

Late Work Policy:

One class day after due date = 10% deduction each day

Two classes after due date= 20% deduction

Three classes after due date= 30% deduction

Four classes after due date= 40% deduction

After five classes (two weeks) late the assignment will remain a zero.

Student Expectations:

Attendance:

Every day is important and your success in this class is directly related to your presence. This class covers an abundance of material and moves along in a steady and consistent manner; therefore if you miss one day it is crucial that you take on the responsibility to obtain whatever work you missed. One day equals an hour and a half (1 ½ hours) that you owe me. If you go on a school wide field trip or you have a performance you are still 100% responsible to make up your work. There are NO EXCEPTIONS! Please

no excuses. I do understand that life happens, so please make sure that you are in constant communication with me.

Exam Make-ups:

It is imperative that you are in attendance on exam days. If you miss the review the class before the exam and return the day of the exam, you are still expected to take the exam as scheduled as they are announced a week in advance. If you miss two or more days before the exam then we will arrange a time for you to complete the exam. Missing the review session prior to a test could seriously put you and your grade at a disadvantage.

Tardies:

Unacceptable. Get to class on time! Three tardies equals a detention.

Behavior:

I expect you to treat everyone the way you would like to be treated. You are to exhibit responsibility, respectfulness, participation, and manners on a daily basis. This is a positive, uplifting, and motivating classroom where learning occurs on a daily basis with no exceptions. I want everyone to experience the same learning atmosphere where thought provoking discussions and questions are carried out daily.

Cheating, plagiarism, lying, talking while I am talking, or swearing is NOT tolerated in my classroom. There is no reason to partake in any of the above and appropriate actions will be taken if they are disrespected.
