Reflection #1 (Research Paper)
1. Are you satisfied with your topic, driving question, and thesis statement?
Elaborate. State you topic, driving question, and thesis statement. My topic is
foster care, the driving question is, “How does Foster Care Negatively Affect
Teenagers?” The thesis statement is, “Being in foster care has caused more
negative affects on a teenager’s academic achievement, emotional behavior,
maltreatment, and building attachment. I am satisfied with my topic because I
chose something that I see in my daily life. I noticed that a lot of teenagers go into
foster care because of the way they’re treated at home or from the way that they
behave. There are many reasons to why they have to be put into the position.
2. Are you on target with the paper timeline? If yes, what processes have you
used to keep you on track? If not, what are your plans for catching up? I
have been on target with the paper timeline except getting the last paper look at
again. I revised it the first time, but I received it back and have to resubmit it all
over. The processes I have used to keep on track was to find time in between my
schedule to work on the paper and get feedback right away, so I could make any
changes that were given. The only time that I felt like I wasn’t on track was when
I have to make corrections for my paper and find time to get the rest of the hours
for my product.
3. Discuss some of your most valuable sources. Some of my most valuable sources
were the ones that I found about a teenager’s behavior toward school and at home.
This became very helpful because I was able to go into more depth with each topic. I
was also able to find some stuff about how they react with their caregiver.
4. In general, what are some of your celebrations? What are some of your
struggles? Some celebrations I have is that I were able to finish the paper on time
with the due dates that were on the timeline. The only thing that stopped me for a
moment was trying to work on the last revision for my paper and finding time to add
more to my documentary.
Reflection #2 (Product)
1. What is the connection between your product and research paper? The connection
between my product and research paper is that I’m focusing on getting a foster parent and
a child. The research paper talks about the many factors that are involved with a teenager
being in a foster home. In the documentary, I could interview them and see if they will
inform me what they have actually been through.
2. Describe your product. My product is creating a documentary that involves foster
parents and foster children who are teenagers. This is like a interview where they are
answering questions that I have came up with.
3. Has the form or nature of your product changed since you began? Elaborate on
your yes or no answer. No, the form or nature of my product has not changed because I
believe it fits well with what I’m talking about in my paper. Forming a documentary
about this topic will help other to realize what many teenagers have been through. Some
teenagers went through a struggle to get to the place they are now and turn out to be a
well individual.
4. Do you have a mentor? If yes, describe your working relationship. If no, would
having a mentor be helpful in completing your product? My mentor is Mrs. McQuaig.
Our working relationship is good because I go to her when I have finished up some
hours. She informed me that if I need help with anything else, then she will help out.
5. Has working on your product been a positive experience? Elaborate on your yes
or no answer. Working on my product has been a positive experience because knowing
that my aunt is a foster helped me to decide on what I want to actually do for my product.
She told me that she know someone else who is a foster parent and has a child, so that
will be beneficial to my documentary.
6. What has worked well for you? What would change? Having my aunt working with
me on my graduation project out of school has worked well for me because I can
interview her and get her perspective. The woman that she is going to get in touch with is
going to be helpful with this documentary because her perspective is going to be different
on how my aunt sees it. She may be able to get more foster parents and children to be in
my documentary.
