4th Grade News January 26, 2015 Science: Students have finished their Educreation projects on simple machines at this point. Today, they continued to work on their New Machine. They will demonstrate how their new invention works to the class this week. Reading: Greek Mythology kids that are about a third of the way through already! Please continue to encourage your student to keep a book handy to read at all times! Don't forget, they can also use books on Myon that are in their recommended reading list Math with Mrs. Carlton: Beginning this week, my math class will focus on multiplication fluency and spirals reviews of previously taught standards. The class will be taught using small groups, peer tutoring and differentiated instruction. The goal of my math class is to both accelerate and remediate students as needed. Every Friday, a daily grade will be taken from the spiral review and the multiplication fluency your child is working on that week. Writing: We will begin our study of Greek Mythology this week. Students will bring home new vocabulary words Tuesday Thirty Book Challenge Most students seem to be working hard on their thirty book challenges. Reduce-Please reduce the amount of garbage by recycling! 5.Surface-On the surface of the ocean, you will find foamy water. 6. Produce-Work hard to produce awesome work! 7.Stretcher-The man was put in the ambulance on a stretcher after falling from the tree. 8. Preacher-The preacher greeted everyone as they walked out the door! 9. Pressure-The pressure in the can popped the lid off. 10.Closure-At the end of an informative paragraph, you need a closure sentence. Math with Mrs. McNabb: We will continue to work on comparing and finding equivalent fractions this week using various strategies to include number lines and benchmark fractions. We will have a TEST Friday, January 30th on Comparing, Simplifying, and finding Equivalent fractions. Students will need to be able to draw rectangle fraction bars, create ONE number line with halves, fourths, eighths, and twelfths showing equivalent fractions, and also ONE number line with thirds, sixths, ninths, and twelfths. Students should use multiplication and division to check their equivalency.
