Students in different grade levels may be grouped for testing only if the directions are the
same, the test administration time is the same, the test materials are the same and the test is
not being read aloud. Test coordinators must take care to ensure students do not feel
uncomfortable with mixed-grade level grouping so that test performance is not affected.

p. 35––Calculator inactive is given first (same online)
p. 34, 36––Proctor records time in the TIME box on the board. Updates the time
every 5 minutes (computer collects time online)
p. 37––Student directions in test book at end of calculator inactive to raise hand
and get a calculator. Test administrator paper clips book. (online, directions are
on section summary page to raise hand for a calculator)
Student directions printed at the end of the test (also at the end of ELA)
Student directions in test book for questions requiring numerical answers.
Example student directions:
– Grade 5: Questions 18 through 25 require you to write your answer in
the boxes. Write only one number or symbol in each box. Then fill in the
circle in each column that matches what you have printed. Fill in only one
circle in each column.
Writing a numerical response:
• Doesn’t matter if student fills in the answer from the right or left
• Blank boxes before or after the answer does not matter
• A blank within the answer will make it incorrect. For example, if the
answer is 123 and the student starts with a 1, skips a box, then bubbles
2, then 3, that would be scored as wrong.
Calculator Inactive–Student Test Book Directions
Paper-and Pencil
This is the end of the calculator inactive test questions.
Directions:

not be able to go back and work on these questions once you are given a
calculator.
2. Record in the TIME box on your answer sheet the number of minutes written
on the board it took you to finish this part of the test.
3. Raise your hand to let your teacher know you are ready to begin the
calculator active test questions.
4. Do not begin work on the calculator active test questions until your teacher
has given you a calculator.
