Can I be of any assistance to you? G:Oh,, I’m just having a look. A:Please go right ahead, madam. We’ve large stock of handicraft articles here in these show cases. I’m sure you’ll find our wide assortment of articles very interesting. If you like, I would be happy to show you around and explain some of the items. G:It’s very kind of you. OH, it’s ceramics, Isn’t it? It’s said that porcelain and pottery are made of different materials. I mean different kinds of clay. A:And through different manufacturing processes, too. You know, there are a lot of famous kilns all over China. For example, the Ge Kiln in Zhejiang Province produces a kind of crackle ware, and the Ding Kiln in Hebei province produces a white glaze one. G:So there is a rich variety of ceramics. A:Yes,.Ma’am. As far as I know, ceramics can be classified into two categories: one is porcelain which includes celadon, white porcelain, egg-shell porcelain, crackles ware, etc., and the other is pottery, including painted pottery, glazed pottery, brown earth, etc. G:It is said that the color and glaze of the best ceramics never fade, is that so? A:That’s right. China’s ceramic industry has won the highest reputation all over the world. You know, more than 200 pieces of China’s ancient precious porcelain and pottery made in the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties were displayed in the Palace Museum in Beijing. They are really among the most valuable artistic products in the world. G:Really! Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I hope, some day I will be able to visit the Palace Museum. A:Yo will, madam. The Palace Museum is really worth visiting. Dialogue 2 Talking about tea Listening and its recording ( S: Mr. Smith, L: Li Ming) L:Mr. Smith, do you like your tea with milk and sugar? S: Oh, thank you, but I like clear tea. I find it better without milk or sugar for it quenches my thirst. You know, rich food in the restaurant makes me thirsty. L:You’re right. And clear tea does quench your thirst. Particularly after a rich oily meal, tea helps digestion. What’s more, tea is good for health. S: You’re right. ( after a while the tea is ready.) L:Here is your tear, Mr. Smith. S: Thank you. Oh, jasmine! It’s my favorite drink… L:Well, besides jasmine, do you like black tea or Oolong? S: Both are good. Somebody told me Fujian black tea is the best, It’s rich in its aroma, and it tastes strong and fresh. Oh, yes, is it black in color? L:Not very black. It’s reddish in color. That’s why we Chinese call it red tea. You look tired, Mr. Smith! S: Yes, I’m a little bit tired. L:A cup of hot tea will perk up your spirit. S: I know. Is there anything else worthy of special mention? L:Not special but a funny story. I once drank far too much wine, I babbled out my wife’s maiden name, time and again. I nearly drank myself to death.
